19 It’s Friday, and I’ve spent five days of sixth period doing nothing but reading the encyclopedia. I wasn’t kidding about that. I figure that’s a better use of my time than P.E. used to be. And look—I’m already up to Barlow’s disease (see Scurvy). Okay, so I’ve skimmed a little, but I’m still going to be very disciplined about this. I can’t just skip ahead to the S’s, so (see Scurvy) will have to wait. This self-study isn’t bad at all. I wouldn’t mind ditching all my classes and just spending the whole day in the library—think of how far I’d get in the encyclopedia that way. Or I could design my own program of reading all the classics—Shakespeare, Einstein, Newton, Plato—learn from true geniuses, instead of Pinedale High’s stellar faculty.
