I swung into the parking space and slammed my hands onto the steering wheel. She was a f*****g human, a prey. My ass couldn't like her. But f**k did she smell good. f**k did my fangs ache to bury into her soft skin. And f**k did I not want to breed her and make her mine before anyone else got to her. She was mine and no one else's. I had staked claim and I wasn't going to let anyone else ha- what the hell was I doing? Forbidden. It was forbidden. I needed an Omega, not a damn human.
I sighed and got myself together before grabbing the coffees to take to my mom. What was worse was my mom wanted to talk about the damn human girl, and I had just had run-in number two with her. And she was just as sweet smelling and amazing. Just as tempting as a strawberry in summer. God, I wanted her. I wanted to chase her and pin her. I wanted to slowly trail my nose along her neck and purr in her ear, dig my claws in her and f**k her against a wall. I wanted to bite her and claim her as mine, so everyone knew it. I didn't want anyone else to touch her.
"What is wrong with me? Get it together. Damn." I cursed at myself as I walked up to the elevator and took it up to my mom's office. "God, I'm in deep."
The elevator ride felt like it took ages, and I tapped my foot on the floor as I watched the numbers move. It dinged and I walked out of the elevator to her office. It wasn't any less modern than the rest of the place. She was sitting at her desk on the phone with someone. I could tell it was some weapons deal with how tense her voice sounded. She was in 'bad b***h' mode. Not always my favorite time to be around her if I was honest.
She hung up and took up the coffee cup that I had sat down in front of her. "How was that?"
"Not too busy." I shrugged and brought my own coffee to my lips.
"Good, that was Mr. Daniels. He wanted a case of AKs brought to him at midnight. Think you and your boys can handle that?" My mother tapped a cigarette from a carton and slipped it between her lips.
She pulled out a clipper lighter and ran it along the edge of her desk to set it aflame before bringing it up to light the end of her cigarette. She flicked her lighter shut and pocketed it again. I watched her slip her cigarette between her index and middle finger before letting smoke out from between her lips.
She fanned her legs, crossing her ankles on top of her desk. "So! Tell me about this human girl. What happened? The pack won't shut up about it. Seems you caused quite the scene."
"Evie bought out the usual club. Humans weren't supposed to be within a twenty-mile radius. Christian broke the rule and brought a human in on a leash. He was being his usual dickish self. Slapped the girl, pinned her against the wall by her throat, and was about to kill her." I shrugged and took a long sip of my coffee.
"And you being the knight in shining armor you are... put a stop to it." She sighed and blew out smoke at the same time.
"Bingo." I gestured at her with my index finger, holding my cup. "I punched him in the face, busted his nose, and knocked him out cold on the floor."
My mom shook her head at me like she was disappointed. "You know what your father is going to say. She's prey, sugar. You should have let him have her."
"You know I can't let a woman get treated like s**t. Even a human." I sighed, and she nodded at me.
"I know and that's why I love you, but that's also why the f*****g pack hates you right now. You concerned them. Christian is the type to break the rule and be taboo. You're not." She gestured at me with her cigarette, blowing out smoke and stamping the red-hot end into an ash tray. "Look, she's gone. Just don't let it happen again. I can calm down your father, but I can't calm down a pack alone."
"Got it." I went to get up when she stopped me.
"However, you better cut the crap. I can tell you want to hunt her. Our kind doesn't do that. Not your pack. And you're the top Alpha, Thaniel. Get your head on straight and stop playing with your food." She jabbed her middle finger at him.
"I know." I nodded and sighed.
I was playing with our food. I shouldn't get mixed up with a human, no matter how much I craved her. How much my instincts wanted to chase after her until she couldn't run anymore. How much I wanted to put her bratty mouth in its place. God she was a brat, and I was a sucker for one.
"Get back to work. Gather up the boys to do this damn gun run for me." She waved me away, and I left without so much as a complaint.
I walked back to my desk where Jason was waiting because of course he was. He was one of those people that loved gossip. Truly, Evie's biggest fan in that department. I sat down and tried to ignore him as he leaned on my cubical.
"What she say, mate?" Jason smiled widely at me like an excited dog.
"That you should mind your own business and work." I faced my computer and pounded the spacebar to wake it up.
"We got a job?" Jason walked around to peer at my screen, as I pulled up my email to compose a mass message to everyone.
"AK job." I began to type out a meeting spot, time, and the plan. It was my job to factor everything into place like the owner of a chessboard. I couldn't f**k up or one of us would end up dead. And it wouldn't be at the hands of the client.
"Tonight? The kids have a dance recital that I gotta go to. I can't miss it, mate." Jason ran his eyes down my body, and I sighed.
"You're off for the night. Spend time with your family. We got this." My eyes glanced around the screen as responses flooded in. "I got enough."
"Thanks, mate." Jason smacked my shoulder and walked away, leaving me alone.
Not that I loved dealing with arms, but I had to. I was my mom's son, and it was the family business. My father wouldn't have it any other way. Which my phone had gone off and I had ignored it at the restaurant because I had been too distracted by a human's scent. For not being an Omega, there was something so alluring about her scent. I must be broken. There was no other explanation for it. For why I would be jonesing for a human girl. I sighed and pulled my phone from my pocket, opening the text to see what it was.
A growl passed through my lips as I read my dad's text. It was also about Amy because what else would it be about. I sighed and read it over more than once just to make sure I had read it correctly.
[Grey Eldan] Tell me what I heard from Evie is bullshit.
