Walt watched Ailsa as she flew ahead, managing to take some shots at it midair. She forced it to fly towards the canyon just like they planned. Good girl, he thought with a smile as he ran next to Jenny who was surprisingly still going forward despite the pain she was in. Miranda leaped from tree to tree above them, moving quickly and with much agility.
Ailsa dodged the tiny blasts of ice the dragon blew at her and tried to shoot as many arrows at it as she could. Because of the arrow in its wing, the dragon could not fly fast and it was forced to move in the direction that Ailsa wanted it to and they eventually arrived at the canyon where the next part of their plan was lying in wait.
“Ailsa! Drive it down!” Walt screamed up at Ailsa, not sure if she would hear him but confirmed that she did when she flew up beyond their sight. Ailsa flew above the clouds; she could see the slight silhouette of the dragon below her. With a deep breath, she summoned her control of nature and moved the clouds around so that they came together, causing a large storm cloud. She flew back down and saw that the dragon was heading down towards the area of the canyon where the trap was set.
Walt, Jenny, and Miranda stood right on top of the canyon where the trap was, they watched the Ice Spell Dragon hover right beneath the boulders. Then they looked up and saw Ailsa, she looked exhausted.
Walt called Jenny and they quickly ran together to a side where they could deactivate the spell holding the boulders up. It took some effort because the spell was strong but they destroyed it after a few continuous hits and then the giant ice boulders went tumbling down. They caught the dragon off-guard and it suffered a heavy blow from the attack, making it fall down into the valley.
Ailsa flew down to her teammates and nearly lost her footing but Walt ran to her side to hold her up “are you alright? Maybe you should wait up here,” he said but she shot him a look that shut him up. She pulled away from him and told the rest of them to come closer to her. With a deep breath, she closed her eyes and held her hands up. When she opened her eyes, it was completely white. She had healed every one.
“Wow,” Miranda said, staring at Ailsa with admiration. Ailsa smiled, refreshed as the spell had restored her strength, and given her an increase because she had used it on her teammates.
“Yeah,” Walt said and beamed at his girlfriend.
“Let’s go kill the bastard,” Jenny said with a smile. With their strengths back, they started to make their way down the mountain demarcating the canyons. They were running down, so as they almost reached the part of the mountainside they would descend from, they were thrown back by a blockade. They looked down and saw the dragon nursing its wounds. Ailsa’s nose flared in anger and she ran towards the steps, only to get blown back again.
“Ailsa! Stop!” Walt yelled and helped her up “it seems the dragon activated some sort of barricade,” Miranda said as she stepped towards the seemingly clear area in front of them. She reached her hand forward tentatively and tapped the air in front of her, a blue hexagonal-pattern wall shimmered immediately. She gasped and lowered her hand then turned back to look at them.
“It’s a magic matrix, it’s almost impossible to destroy.”
“Damn!” Walt screamed in frustration.
“We’ll see about that,” Jenny said and charged towards the wall with her giant broadsword and a battle cry. Just like Jenny, she was thrown back from the blow. Walt yelled at her to stop and buried his head in his hands. They were so close but the dragon thwarted them and their plans. The wall was made to return the force directed at it, so no physical force could bring it down. As Walt was thinking about what they could do to bring down the matrix, he heard the Ice Spell Dragon let out a frightening roar.
“Uh?” Miranda said and shifted to the edge of the mountainside to look down into the canyon. There were two strangers fighting the wounded dragon “guys, look,” she said and the rest of them peered over the edge to see the two strange characters throwing attacks at the Ice Spell Dragon. The dragon roared at them and sent ice blasts in their direction but the figures moved quickly and managed to avoid them.
Walt’s fists clenched in annoyance, the bastards were going to kill the dragon and take their reward. The dragon was already very weak and might die at any moment, yet they were stuck up the mountain while people that did not work as hard as they get to finish off the dragon. He looked up and saw that the storm clouds Ailsa had created were getting bigger and he could hear thunder. An idea suddenly came to him.
“Ailsa,” he called and she looked up at him “can you direct lightning here?” he asked. She frowned and looked up to the sky then looked back at him and nodded. Ailsa told everyone to stand back and assumed a pose in front of the magic matrix.
It would seem a bit impossible that Ailsa would be able to control lightning but Walt figures that since she could direct the wind, it would be easy for her to create an atmosphere around the matrix for the lighting to strike. Hopefully, the effect would fry the wall and they would be able to get back to their task.
With a deep breath, Ailsa summoned her control of nature and moved her hands up. The icy winds around them started to swirl rapidly, causing it to form a twister that reached up into the clouds. Walt and the others watched as the lightning flashed in the twister. Using all her strength, she pushed the twister until it slammed against the matrix. The collision caused a tremor throughout the mountainside, causing a landslide down into the canyon.
After the effects of the crash calmed down, Walt looked down, scared that it might have killed the strangers there. Luckily, they resurfaced from the pile of snow and the dragon roared. Jenny was the first to walk up to the place where the magic matrix was and move through. She yelled to the others and they all quickly ran down the mountainside.
When they got down into the canyon, they saw that the Ice Spell Dragon’s eyes were now glowing. That probably meant it was really pissed which was not good. Walt glanced at the strangers that had been fighting the dragon. They were two male players, one was clearly a magician and had a scepter with a glowing green orb on top. The strangers also looked at Walt and his teammates but neither of them had time to speak as the dragon sent the largest ice blast yet towards them.
The second stranger was hit by the blast. He held his two swords in front of himself for protection but the force still threw him back until he crashed against the wall of the canyon. The blast almost met Miranda but she managed to lift herself up into the air in the last minute and swing over the shot with a wide smile on her face, landing on the ground nimbly.
“This is so much fun!” Miranda said.
“No, it’s not!” yelled Jenny who had been managing to avoid hits since Ailsa healed them. The magician ran to help his friend but the dragon was not done. Walt watched with wide eyes as the horn of the dragon started to glow white. Suddenly it made eye contact with him, then pointed it horn and sent out a blinding beam from it.
“Look out!” the magician yelled and used his scepter to shoot a fireball attack to counter the ice beam from the dragon. The result was an explosion that sent both him and Walt flying back. The Ice Spell dragon took off again, flying clumsily towards the open area of the Ice Field.
“Are you alright?” the magician asked as he helped Walt to his feet. He was a skinny blond guy with blue eyes and an easy smile. Walt smiled back at him and thanked him.
“I know you,” he heard Ailsa say and turned his head to see her talking to the magician’s friend that the dragon blasted. She was healing him, which made Walt a little mad because the guy was a complete stranger and she was using her powers on him. He and the magician ran over to their side then Walt recognized the guy immediately. He was the mad warrior that had been hitting on Ailsa the first day they arrived at the Land of Origin together.
“Oh, yeah…you’s that cute elf. Wow, you made it far fast,” the mad warrior said with a smirk that made Walt want to punch his face. Ailsa was not amused either and stopped healing him, she stood up frowning, and moved back to Walt’s side.
“Uh, sorry to break up the reunion, but we’ve got a dragon to kill and it’s getting away,” Miranda spoke with a bored look on her face. They all decided to skip the introductions and started to run towards the plains of the Ice Field, right in front of the huge mountain that the Ice Spell Dragon’s cave was located, where its injured sounds were coming from.
