10. Medicine

A couple hours later me and Tre seem to have had enough exploring.

"Let's go see if the king is back princess."

I nod and lead the way to our house part of the castle.

"Hi momma. Any news yet?"

"Nothing yet child." She looks up at me and Tre. "You 2 go sit down at the table. I'll have the servants bring you both something. You missed lunch."

"Sorry momma. We were just exploring the castle a bit. I guess we lost track of time. This place is so big now."

"Yes, it is. Where all did you explore today?"

"We got lost and ended up in the servants quarters. They need bedding momma."

She starts to laugh. "Take it up with your father."

Me and Tre sit down at the table and start eating when the advisors and my dad come in. I can really smell the dog smell on them.

"Daddy you don't smell nice."

He smiles at me. "Sorry my princess. We found that rogue dog. He won't be bothering us anymore. You kids can go back outside again."

I look at Dipak and he's holding his arm. "Are you ok advisor Dipak?"

"I'm fine princess. Just a small dog bite."

Mom takes a step to look at his arm.

"You mean the werewolf bit you?

Dracul smiles. "Yep, Dipak let that dumb dog take a bite of him."

Dipak looks at Dracul. "Well maybe if you wouldn't have thrown towards me. I wasn't ready for that."

"That was the plan Dipak. You agreed with it."

"Well I didn't mean right then."

They both start laughing.

My dad just looks back and forth between the 2 of them laughing.

My mom looks closer at Dipaks arm. "I'm going to take him to the medical area. That should be treated."

"I'll be fine ma'am"

"No I must insist Dipak."

"Can I go with you momma?" She gives me an odd look. "I would really like to see how to heal different wounds."

"I don't mind." She looks at my dad.

"Medicine is a great thing to study. You can learn new ways to help our people." Dad takes a cup of blood from a servant. "I think it's a great idea my princess."

Dracul nods. "That's a great idea. Maybe you will discover the next medical miracle princess."

Dipak looks at me. "Medicine is a difficult field princess. It will surely keep you busy for a long time if you enjoy studying it." Mom squeezes his arm and he jumps. "Just don't forget to be easy with the patients princess."

We all start to laugh.

"Oh I apologize Dipak. I was trying to see if I could squeeze anything out of it." She takes a step toward the door. "Well let's go. Dinner will be served in the dining area. Dipak will be back by then. Make sure to tell Asa please."

Dracul smiles at my mom. "Yea ma'am thank you."

Mom and I walk with Dipak to the Medical area.

A servant ushers us into a room right when we get there. "The doctor will be here in a few soon. Please remove your clothes down to your waist sir."

Dipak looks at my mom and she nods.

He takes off the top half of his robe. I've never seen a man like that before. He has so many muscles. Every inch of him is carved out in muscle. His stomach is amazing. His arms and his chest... I can't help but stare. I really like the way he looks. I wonder if Tre looks like that too.

My mom clears her throat. I look at her and she smiles towards Dipak and shrugs her shoulders.

Dipak smiles back at her as the doctor walks in.

"Hello I'm Doctor Cruor."

I look at the doctor and he looks at me. "Well hello princess. What brings you here?"

My mom clears her throat again and the doctor looks at my mom and Dipak.

"Hello ma'am, Advisor Dipak. That looks like a mighty big bite. What happened?"

Dipak looks at him. "Werewolf bit me."

"Oh those are painful. I am going to have to have a servant drain the infection out before I can start treatment. Queen, Princess, would you please step out with me while they do that?"

My mom follows the doctor and I follow my mom. As soon as I get out of the room a servant walks in and shuts the door.

"Sorry ladies. But this part sometimes gets smelly and... loud."

"Doctor my daughter would like to study medicine. She would like to learn how to help us more."

"Oh excellent princess. We can always use more assistance in here. And starting at such a young age you will learn quick. How about we start with 2 days per week? You can come in and learn from the ground up."

I nod as the servant leaves Dipaks room. "I would like that."

"I must tell you that you will be working with the servants as well as myself to learn. It can also be wet and smelly at times. We never know the types of injuries we will get. And it's a lot of cleaning. All medical areas need to be clean."

"I want to do it doctor."

"Great. How about you start after the send off party for advisor Dracul. You can come up for a couple hours. We can start with a tour and introductions."

"That would be perfect sir."

He smiles at me and opens Dipaks room door.

"Ok Advisor Dipak. Let me see that arm now. Ah this is looking much better already. Princess do you see how the swelling has gone down already?"

"Yes."

"Most patients will scream and threaten the lives of the servants when they have werewolf wounds cleaned but Advisor Dipak seems to have a high pain tolerance. He was a bad example. Usually we can hear them all the way down the hallway."

"Sorry doctor."

The doctor just smiles at Dipak. "When the werewolf bit him some of the saliva or spit stayed in the wound. Werewolf saliva is toxic to vampires. The advisors arm began started to get infected nearly immediately." He takes a needle with a tube of something and starts sticking it in Dipak's wounds. "The servant removed all of the infection and then washed out all of that saliva. Now I am shooting a solution into the wounds. It will help them close faster."

I just nod and watch.

"Werewolf wounds will heal very slowly without this solution. But as you can see here. The wounds on Advisor Dipaks arm are beginning to seal and close already."

I bring my face closer to his arm. "Wow that is so neat Doctor. It's all closed up. It's just a little pink."

"Yes and it will remain pink for a few hours. If the pinkness is not gone by tomorrow morning please return advisor. A follow up exam will need to be done."

"Yes Doctor." Dipak puts his shirt back on. "Thank you Doctor."

"My pleasure Advisor Dipak. Just be careful for a couple hours. We don't want that getting ripped back open."

Dipak nods.

My mom walks over to the doctor. "Thank you Doctor Cruor. For everything."

He smiles at her. "My pleasure ma'am. And I will see you after the party princess. Oh and make sure you're not wearing to fancy of clothes. We don't want them to get ruined." He looks back at my mom. "The ladies here were light blue dresses with aprons. She is welcome to wear whatever she wants. But I would just hate to have a beautiful gown get ruined."

"Thank you doctor. I will have the servants design something basic for her."

I am about to jump up and down. I am so excited. I don't have to wear huge ball gowns for this. They are going to make me another type of dress. I know I am smiling from ear to ear and I can't even stop. "Thank you Doctor. I will see you again soon."

We exit the medical area and I still can't stop smiling. "Momma, can I wear a dress just like the other people there? That blue was so pretty."

"Yes we have more of that fabric. I will have the servants make you 2 of them to start. You did very well in there."

"Yes she did. She wasn't even squeamish around my arm at all." He looks at me. "You're a natural in there princess. Wouldn't be surprised if you end up a doctor someday."

We walk into the dining area and everyone is just starting to sit down. I sit down by Tre.

My mom remains standing while everyone sits. "I have an announcement everyone." Everyone looks at my mom. "The princess will be beginning her study of medicine in a few days."

Everyone claps and Tre squeezes my hand under the table. "I know you'll be great at it princess."

Dipak stands up as my mom sits down. "She did great in there. No doubt a future doctor right there Miculai."

My dad smiles at Dipak and then at me.

I remember how Dipak looked without his shirt on. He was so muscular. I wonder if Dipak will be my mate. Probably not. He's a lot older than me. He'll find his mate before I'm even old enough to find mine. I squeeze Tre's hand. He starts rubbing my thumb with his. I look down at our hands. Oh I hate these stupid gloves. He pulls our hands over to his lap.

Mary steps closer behind me. "I'm sorry princess. It looks like your veil is coming unpinned here. Can you help me for a second."

I look up and I can see her and my mother giving each other a weird look from across the table.

"Of course." I let go of Tre's hand and adjust the veil so Mary can repin it. "Thank you."

"My pleasure princess." She steps back against the wall.

Tre reaches for my hand again and my mother stands up. "Servants will you please bring the food in now?" She looks at Asa.

Asa stands up. "Tre may I speak with you in the hallway for a moment."

"Yes of course mother." He walks out into the hallway with his mom.

They come back in a couple of minutes later at the same time the servants are placing the food. Tre sits back down beside me. "The food looks amazing."

"Yes it does."

My father stands up and clears his throat. "Thank you all for joining us tonight. We had an excellent day. Well, we had a really bad day actually." He looks around at all of us sitting there waiting on him to make up his mind. "We had to go through 3 human villages to find that werewolf and Dipak got himself bit." Dipak sits up and points at Dracul. "Ok Dracul got Dipak bit." My dad chuckles. "But regardless, the werewolf is gone so we can lower the guard level. And as a bonus our very own princess decided to study medicine."

Everyone claps and smiles.

Asa looks at me. "Congratulations Princess. It is a very rewarding field. I'm sure you'll love it."

Mom looks at me. "I'm very proud of you child."

Tre smiles at me. "I'm sure you'll help lots of vampires princess."

"Thank you all."

Clay sits up straight in his chair. "Hey now we can go fishing and riding without all the guards following us everywhere."

We all start to laugh.

My dad sits back down. "That you can Clay. Let's eat."
