Chapter 8“Uh, looks like a bit of a problem, Jack.”
A bright orange boot was bolted to the Salvager's landing strut.
Misty looked it over, as though inspecting how it worked. “What is it?”
“Repossession boot. I'm afraid I've been a little delinquent on my payments. First thing the bank does is have a boot put on so the ship can't be taken anywhere.”
She looked over at Jack in disbelief. “But it's not attached to anything. Not even the ground! How will it stop us from lifting off?”
He really didn't expect her to understand the mechanics of such a device. Nor did he have the patience to explain it to her, not right then. “We can't take off with that thing attached, all right? Take my word for it.”
“All right.” She put her hands on her hips. “How are we getting to Vega?”
