Andy
Next morning when Mia came downstairs her eyes looked tired. “Hey babes, how are you doing? You look terrible.”
“I feel terrible,” she said massaging her neck instinctively, “my head hurts and I haven’t been able to sleep properly in spite of medicines. I hate this. Hate being a weakling.”
“I know. It’s a lot to face your attacker everyday!”
Mia sat down next to him and took the mug of coffee that he offered. “What do I do Andy? I can’t carry on like this. I have 3 whole semesters to go and my work is important for me.”
“I know sweetie, but he is a senior, isn’t he? He will be gone doing his internship after his finals in Oct this year.”
“Oh yeah! I didn’t think about it.”
“So that leaves you with only a few months. Keep out of his way and stay away.”
“Hmm,” she was lost in thought.
“How about getting trained in martial arts or kickboxing?”
Her eyes lit up. “Yes! I want to join a self defense training program. I am fed up of feeling scared and weak.”
“That’s sorted then babes. I will arrange for the right one. Will check with my Kung Fu master. He would know.”
He had been into Martial arts since childhood and was a black belt in Kung Fu. He had still continued going for practice sessions to his master but only 2 to 3 times a month. Taekwondo would be a good option for Mia.
After all, in real life you had to be your own hero!
Anya
She had tried her best to get Sushant back into custody but it seemed like his dad’s connections were a lot more influential than she had imagined. She had kept Andy in the loop and tried to get news about Mia’s health. She felt a n irrational attachment to him which she had never felt before.
After dada's death she just couldn't let her guard down. She had no friends other than Sana and all her previous relationships which weren't too many had fizzled out. Both men in her past wanted her to settle for marriage while she wanted her career. She knew she would never be able to rest while there was crime flourishing around her.
It had been over 2 months since the incident and the girl, Mia was doing well. She was impressed by the girl’s tenacity. Mia had joined some self defense classes and had continued with her college. She liked strong women! Period.
Anya had suggested that they file a criminal case against Sushant under the relevant laws against stalking and asked them to complain to the National Commission for Women (NCW). It helped. A warning was served and Sushant backed off from harassing Mia.
She was having her brekkie still engrossed in thinking of how much she enjoyed chatting with Andy. Her phone pinged with a chat message.
“Bon Appetit!”
Thank you. Whats up?
Are you available on 22nd Jan?
It is almost a month later! Why ask?
It’s the COEP’s 84th Regatta. I would like to invite you. I am on one of the rowing teams.
All the best. I will come.
Cool. Thanks. Enjoy your meal. One day I would like to feed you a real breakfast. Bye for now.
Anya smiled to herself and continued eating her bun with chai.
“Madam, we have found a floating corpse in the Mula river,” one of her constables entered her cabin.
“Let’s go.” she finished the last sip of her tea and headed out. It looked like work as usual.
