The AMC Gremlin was originally designed to fit four passengers. Fitting seven people and a cat inside was an exercise in stacking. Kennedy crammed in on Randell’s lap in the front seat, while Olivia and Trinity perched on Dani and Gimcrack in the back. Alleye drove with Tom curled up in her lap, purring loudly.
Interior tightly packed, the two Fairy students took one look at the cramped conditions and decided to risk flight rather than subject themselves to the indignity of the sardine effect experienced in the little car.
Pear-Blossom’s words summed up the Fairies’ feelings. “At least if we are attacked in the air, we can defend ourselves… No offense, but we don’t want to die on the ground… in an automobile.”
