"You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly."
~Sam Keen
I've been training in the gym until I could feel the sweat on my forehead fly off from running on the treadmill. Now if there's one thing you should know about me, is that I barely sweat unless I've been exercising excessively.
I hop off the treadmill after turning it off and quickly take a shower.
Now let's cue the shower thoughts:
If a pregnant woman goes swimming, doesn't that make her a human submarine?
Why is it called toothpaste or toothbrush when we damn well know we're supposed to be cleaning all our teeth?
If you're over 30, you were alive before every dog in the world.
The Japanese flag could actually be a pie chart showing how much of Japan is Japan.
Oh my god, what if the whole galaxy knows about us but they refuse to communicate with Earth until us humans figure it all out ourselves?
30 minutes later
After showering and putting on a comfy pair of leggings I make my way towards the living room hoping to finally relax and have time to myself.
*Ping*
Well, I spoke too soon. I thought, frowning at my phone seeing it vibrating with a text from... Indigo?
Indigo: Change of plans, get to the Underground in an hour.
Me: Wait, what?! Why??
Indigo: My dad said that you're supposed to be fighting The Thunder if you're able to defeat all of your other opponents so he wants to make sure you're prepared.
Me: Ughhhh fine. I'll see you soon.
In fifteen minutes I tie my hair in a neat high ponytail and put on my workout clothes.
I run out of my house, slamming the front door shut behind me and get into my car.
If you don't know who Thunder is, well all you need to know is that he's kinda a big deal. Scratch that, he's a huge deal. Apparently, he's one of the best boxers in the country and personally, I've never seen him due to the fact he travels a lot but I don't need to in order to believe all these stories I've heard about him.
I've heard that he plays dirty. I mean, in illegal boxing there are no rules, the only rule is to take down your opponent even if it means death. Seriously, the dude slammed a f*****g chair on his opponent one time.
Well, two can play at that game.
30 minutes later
I park my car a few streets away from the Underground and jog the rest of the way. The Underground earned its name for a reason: it is located underneath a club where only certain people can get into if you know the password.
I jog towards the bouncer and utter one word: "Thunder."
The password changes every day and today, the password is Thunder as he is going to be seen as royalty when he gets here.
The bouncer steps aside and lets me through as I instantly bolt down the stairs and see Indigo already there waiting for me.
He flashes me a pearly white smile and leads me towards the ring where a massive crowd sits cheering and screaming with excitement. Guess everyone got the same message.
Indigo sits me down and gives me tips on each boxer which already gives me a huge advantage. After that, Indigo led me backstage where I practised a few of my moves until it was my turn to fight.
Before I knew it, I heard Rick in the ring shouting out my name earning a ton of cheers from the crowd.
"...and in the other corner give it up for... Steel!"
Guess that's my first opponent today. I slip on my hoodie and get into the boxing ring meeting my opponent in the middle.
He doesn't have as much muscle as other boxers usually do but it could mean that he's faster than he is stronger. He looks just about 6'0 and his piercing gaze suggests that he is not one to show mercy.
"Now we know how this works, you either win, surrender or you die. Touch gloves now if you want..." Rick says as the crowd eagerly waits for us to begin.
I look down at Steel's gloves seeing that they're already waiting for my acceptance. I touch gloves back.
"...Now back to your corners."
I respectively go back to my corner and wait for Rick to start the fight.
"Fighters ready?"
I give a nod showing that I'm already in the fighting stance, as well as steel.
"FIGHT!"
Steel and I circle each other while I wait for him to make the first move. I give a quick scan of his body and see that his stance isn't well balanced, he has more weight leaning onto his right foot than his left.
Soon enough, Steel aims for my cheek which I quickly duck away from and instantly swipe his right foot. He loses balance and falls onto his back.
I straddle on him and deliver two swift punches to his stomach and then landing another one onto his nose, smirking at the satisfying crunch.
"Ah! You b***h!" He yells as blood trickles out of his nose and down the side of his head.
At his sudden outburst, he flips me over knowing that I lost focus and delivers an uppercut to my jaw.
I thrust my hips upwards sending him wobbling off of me and quickly jump up before landing a hard kick against his ribs.
His screams fill my ears as I then grab his left arm and twist it whilst stepping onto his shoulder firmly.
His screams of agony fill my ears and fuels the crowd's hunger for more.
I notice that he hasn't surrendered yet so I slowly twist his arm more and more until I hear a small pop which meant that his arm was getting pulled out of his arm socket.
"Stop, STOP! I surrender!" He yells thrashing under me. That was way too easy.
Rick comes rushing back in and grabs my wrist before lifting it into the air.
"Your winner!" He declares.
45 minutes later
So far, I won against each of my opponents. Naturally, each one was harder than the last but I still managed to succeed.
I step out of the ring and stand backstage. I slip off my hoodie and flop onto a nearby bench.
"Well done" I hear Indigo congratulate me as he walks into the room chucking a water bottle at me which I instinctively caught.
"Thanks" I reply gulping down half the bottle.
"You know, you're gonna have to go against Thunder now," he says
"I know"
"You'll be able to beat him, I know you can," says Indigo helping me stand up signalling that I have to get back now.
"I know I will" I smirk.
"Well then, I'll see you out there" smiles Indigo as he jogs out of the room and presumably back to sit with the crowd.
I slip on my dark hoodie, pulling it down enough that it's shielding my eyes away from everyone along with my identity.
Staring into the crowd, I instantly recognise Indigo sitting at the front cheering me on and I smile to myself knowing that he's the only person that gives me motivation.
I give him a quick nod and put my mouth guard on before walking inside the ring taking my place in front of my opponent.
Based on every opponent I had, I can already tell that this one will be hard to beat.
His 8 rock hard abs protrude proudly instantly showing of his v- line with his loose white shorts barely covering it. His tan skin glistens with sweat indicating his success with his previous opponents so far and as my eyes travel up to his face, nothing was there but a shadow.
A shadow formed from his own hat. A baseball cap to be precise. As cringy as it sounds, the front of the cap did well to hide his features.
Mysterious as this character already is, what makes him more mysterious is the one word he uttered under his breath:
"Mate."
