What is he, Lenny?

2147 Words
~LENNY~ I groan and rub my eyes when the sun ray graces me with it's warmth. What the f**k? I jolt awake when I fully realize that the sun is out. My alarm clock reads 9am. How did I let myself sleep in like that? I ask myself as I throw off the covers and and jump out of bed in only my black shorts. I'm late. I'm super late. What the hell happened? Why didn't mom or dad or Danny wake me up? I ask myself. I enter the bathroom and brush my teeth before stepping into the shower. Where the f**k are Ronny and Milly? Or even Lyca or Leo? Especially Leo? Couldn't anyone have called me when they realized that I wasn't in school yet? I walk out of the shower, still frustrated. As much as I love taking a bath, and how relaxed it makes me, it has done nothing for my frustration this time. I put on my black ripped jeans and a shirt, then comb my hair. After making sure I look presentable, I head out my room and go down the stairs. I'm already late so I don't need to rush. I'm sure I have already missed the first class. "Dad?" I call out when I step into the living room. Danny is huddled on the couch with her phone against her ears. I can hear Cisco, her mate's voice from the other end. They're always on phone, I don't know why they don't just move in together. Cisco is 23 years old, that's just three years older than Danny. He's a pack doctor. " In here kiddo." I follow dad's voice to the kitchen. His back is facing me as he stands over the stove preparing pancakes. "Where's mom? Why didn't anyone wake me up?" I ask with a frown. He turns around to face me after turning off the stove. Dad looks like a manlier version of me. I look like dad alright, but I look a bit girlish too. If that makes sense. His brows creese into a frown as he takes in my appearance. "Where are you going to?" He asks, pointing to my bag and clothes. "To school. I'm late already. Why didn't anyone bother to wake me up?" I ask as I hold on to the strap of my bag that hangs on my shoulder. Dad just chuckles, which turns into a full blown laughter. As nice as it is to finally hear him laugh again, since he's been busy with work lately, I don't like that it's me he's laughing at. "Danny." He calls out to Danny who pokes her head out, the phone still on her ears. She frowns and raises a quizical brow at me and dad. "What is going on here? Where are you off to Lenn?" She asks making me frown. Is everybody out of their mind or something? Why do they all keep asking the same question or is today not a weekday? "What do you mean? I have class and I'm already late." I reply. Her face turns pink as she tries to stifle her laugh. But it's no use, it eventually pours out of her mouth like a waterfall. It's as if her laughter triggers dad's own again. This is really irritating, if they don't know. "What are you laughing about?" I ask, a little more than just irritated. After they are done with their laughing fit that leaves them breathlessly panting and me highly irritated. Dad asks, "Did you not receive any email from your school?" He asks as Danny leans against the kitchen door with a smirk. "No. Why?" I ask. Okay, truth is that I have not checked my emails in three days, so I don't know. "Class has been cancelled for two days. Rogues attacked on the school premises so they have to find an excuse for the humans there." He explains. "Why didn't anyone tell me this?" I ask getting frustrated at the fact that they all knew and didn't tell me. "You have to check your emails, kiddo. When was the last time you did that?" He asks with his brows quirked up like in cartoons. "Last three days...I think." I say, with a nervous smile as I scratch the back of my neck. It's my fault but as my friends and family members, they should have informed me too. "Go change and come down for breakfast, kiddo. No one has eaten yet." He says with a smile before turning around to continue cooking. I sigh and go back inside my room. I plop myself onto the bed and pull my phone out to see my notifications full with message alerts. 7:00am (MILLY) 'Did you get the emails from school?' 7:01am (LYCA) Yh. The rogue attack. Do you know how it happened? 7:03(RONNY) No. All we know is class has been cancelled for two days. Who's up for going to the beach in the afternoon? 7:04am (LYCA) I'm all in babe. Where's Lenny? 7:06am (MILLY) I can bet you that he has not even heard the news of classes being cancelled. I'm not even sure he's awake. Okay. It doesn't matter that Milly is right. I was not awake and I had not heard. They still should have called me to check up on me. What if something bad had happened to me? They should have called to check up on me! 9:50am (LENNY) Thank you guys so much for checking to see if I'm doing will and that I'm not dead. (Note the sarcasm). I'll simply ignore your earlier message and go straight into the point...I'm coming with you to the beach. That is, Leo and I. After that message goes through, I open the message from Leo. 7:00am (LEO) Hey babe, classes has been cancelled for two days so don't bother waking up early. If you do though, just go back to sleep...or you can text me when you wake up. You know what. This is the ideal boyfriend. He took the liberty to tell me what's going on, knowing I might or might not know about the class being cancelled. Whoever said broes over hoes, is a big fat lier. 9:55am(LENNY) hi, I just finished dressing up for school only to be told classes have been cancelled. I mean, I'm glad classes have been cancelled. I just wish I would have seen your message sooner since no one else tried to tell me about it. 9:55am (LEO) sorry about that. Did you not check your email? Everyone received them. Well that was fast. He just replied right after I sent the message. It's like he was waiting for me to reply to his message. 9:56am (LENNY) I didn't see it. Anyways, we are going to the beach this afternoon, are you up for it? 9:56am (LEO) yh. Sure. I'm in. I'll take any opportunity to see you. Did I mention that this guy is a talker. He has a lot of words under his sleeves. I definately feel his vibe. 9:57am(LENNY) I know you will. See you then. I plug in my phone when I realize the battery is low. My sour mood, now lifted. I feel so much better after texting Leo. I needed that. It's always so much more refreshing and energizing after talking to him. It's like having my own energy bar. "Lenny.... breakfast time." I hear mom's voice calling out. I did not see her when I went downstairs. I even forgot to prompt dad to tell me where she was. But there's no need for it now. "I'm coming." I call back as I get up from bed and head downstairs. "Good Morning Mom." I say when I get to the kitchen. "Morning baby." She says. I thought she would be over calling me baby by now. I'm almost 18 years old, I'm no longer a 'baby'. I don't say it to her though knowing very well the answer I'll get by doing so. We have had the same talk over and over and over again that there's no need to worry about it anymore since it always results with the same reply. That is with mom saying; you're still my baby boy. And I don't need that right now, so, instead I take my seat. I'm soon joined by Danny who is still on the phone with Cisco. How long does she want to talk to the guy anyway? Then mom and dad join the table. We eat in silence for a few minutes before mom asks the question I knew was coming. I knew it wouldn't take long before someone asks me about Leo. "So...who is the boyfriend?" Mom asks, her eyes glinting and her lips wide with a smile. Mom is the one who asks the question, but dad and Danny perk their ears with interest. I still groan at it, even though I knew it was coming. I just wanted to keep it to myself for a while. To know where we are going with this relationship before telling them. "Please guys, we just started dating. Can't I keep it to myself a little bit longer?" I ask without looking at them as I continue eating my pancakes. "Uh uh...I need to know whoever it is my son is with. I knew about your sister's mate the very day she met him. So why can't I know about yours? Am I right Peter.?" She asks her mate who does nothing but nod in agreement with her. Why does it feel like every one is out to get me today? "Mom, he's my boyfriend not my mate. There's a big difference between the two." I say. It's true. Even if I'd like for him to be my mate, he's not. So I'll just take what I can get and accept it like that with an open heart and an understanding mind. "We are not asking for you to bring him over...yet. All we want is to know something about him." Dad inserts. These two are working against me! "I'll tell you only his name." I say, then put my spoon down to give them my full attention. Even Danny is curious, and she's never this nosy. "That's a start." Mom says, making me sigh. Just his name. I'm going to give them just his name. "Leonardo." I say then resume eating, ignoring the huge grins plastered on their faces. I learnt about his full name yesterday. Leonardo Bartholomew. That's a mouthful, I know. But I also learnt other things. Like his favourite colour is surprisingly orange, like the sun. I mean who would have thought that a vampire would like anything related to the sun. Unlike what rumors say, vampires are not affected by the sun in anyway. I don't even know where they got that theory from. "That's a nice name. Leonardo. It has a nice ring to it." Danny comments with a smile, "I know right." Mom says, " does he attend your school? What year is he in?" Mom asks again, even though I said I was going to give his name, they won't let it go untill they have a detailed file on Leo. "Yes he's in my school, and he's also in his final year." I reply making mom coo and my cheeks catch fire. All my friends and I are in our final years. We'll be leaving the school soon and I still don't know what I'm going to do with my life. I'm sure no one in high school really knows what they want to do with their life. "How old is he?" Danny asks. She has always been a great big sister. But she doesn't talk much, so I'm a bit surprised that she's curious. Okay I'm not really that surprised, I'm her brother after all. She talks with Cisco a lot though. "Nineteen?" I say it more like a question, making them raise their brows. "Are you or are you not sure?" Mom asks, " because you need to know. I don't mind if you're older than him." She says. But I can't imagine myself being older than Leo. Nope. I like that he's older than me. Even if it's not by much. "Now, for the big question.." dad says, making my throat and mouth dry, I knew this was coming, I anticipated it. But that does not mean I'm ready for it. "What is he, Lenny?" Dad asks, his face giving nothing away. I know they have no problems with vampires. But the way they look right now, makes my heart beat faster and blood rush to my brain. "A vampire..." I whisper. "I..did not expect that." Mom says.
