Down the stairs

1355 Words
LENNY'S P.O.V "mom, I'm off." I yell out to my mother, as I run down the stairs. " The keys are on the kitchen counter, Lenn. Don't stay too late. Just come back immediately after school. You know you're grounded." Mom exclaims from her room breathlessly. I wonder what has her so out of breath. You know what, I don't want to know. I don't have enough bleach to cleanse my brain. "Sure, mom." I make a beeline for the kitchen, get the keys and gulp down a cup of orange juice and take some sandwiches to eat on the way. Then step out of the house. I hop into mom's black landrover and drive off before I miss my first class. Mom lets me take her car sometimes. When she feels like offering it to me, to be precise. You might be wondering wondering who I am and what I did to earn a week of being grounded. I go by the name Lenny. Lenny Williams. I know my name is way too feminine for a male. Turns out my mom was dared by my dad to name their second child Lenny and first child Danny. Danny is the name given to my elder sister. I'll say that's an awfully twisted sense of humor. Now, for getting a week of being grounded...I talked with my mouth full. Can you believe it? I'm grounded because I talked with my mouth full. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I'm being grounded for talking with my mouth full. Who even grounds their seventeen going eighteen son. I know all about table etiquette but come on, dad did the same thing, Danny also did the same thing. I'm simply bad at swallowing the food in my mouth before mom catches on. They've been doing it longer than I have. They've had years of experience so they can hide it well. Dad's been doing it since he met mom, and that was wayyyy before I was born. Danny has been doing it two years before me. I park the car at the only spot available ...next to Ben's, before getting down. Ben is an asshole. He's a sore looser. A jerk. A stinking dog, and a bully wannabe. That d**k head enjoys making my life miserable. At least he tries, I don't take being touched in any violent way easily. I make sure the car is properly locked before strapping my backpack on my shoulders, then walk amongst the many students here into the school through the noisy hallway. You see...there is something that humans don't know about Stonevile. It's a city of shifters, basically supernaturals. There are werecayotes, werefoxes, werewolves, werebears and vampires. However, we're not all mixed together like that. Each species have their towns, their own leaders and policies even though most policies are similar. Like the rules about mates. It doesn't matter what species or gender your mate is, there is nothing that stops you from mating with them. However, the majority of all the species attend Claymon high. Simply because it's the closest to the shifter community there is, and most of the students and staffs are shifters. The supernatural world is very well hidden amongst the humans. Even though they see us and talk to us they don't know that we're not like them. Yes. I said it. Us. My family and I are werewolves. Apart from my mom anyway. She's a human. My dad found his soulmate in her, so even if she's not a shifter, she's still part of the Claymon pack. She's a nurse at the pack. Dad on the other hand, is a warrior. And Danny will be off to college in a few weeks. I put all the books I'll be needing for this week in my locker after typing in my password. Keeping only maths, music and arts materials in my backpack. Yh. I'm a sucker for music and art. Can you blame me though? I've got an eye for anything worthwhile. Being a male doesn't mean I can't appreciate the creativity in music and art. I enter my first class. Math. The place is so noisy. All because the teacher is not yet in. We have a few minutes till he gets here. I take a seat beside my best friends, Ronny and Milly, short for Millicent. They're twins. I've always found their dark skin to be beautiful and intriguing. It perfectly highlights their blue eyes. " Up for a match after school?" Milly asks, poking her head out from behind Ronny. She's a bit of a tomboy, but a rather charming one. "Always am." I chirp, offering Ronny a high five. There are three things I love doing, music and art. But I also enjoy soccer. The three of us usually play a bit of soccer after school. I know I'm grounded but hey...you only live ones. "I'm so kicking your ass." Ronny inserts with a smirk, folding his arms on his chest. " We all know you're good. But, don't be cocky." I comment with a shake of my head. The teacher comes in at that moment making Ronny swallow his smart reply. " Settle down class." The teacher says, I never really bother with remembering the name of every teacher I know, it's too stressful. I can't get everything I learn into my head, I can't add more burden to my brain. " Now, today's topic... trigonometry." He announced, making everyone show their distaste with a groan. So, that's how the class went. I not down notes and try so hard to pay attention but Ronny decided he can't be left to wallow in his inability to understand what the teacher is trying to explain alone. By lunch time, I can't remember much of what went on in that class or how that class went. Milly, Ronny and I are sitting at the table at the far end of the cafeteria keeping to ourselves. It's not that we we don't mingle with other's, we do. But you can't be friends with everyone you meet, you can only be acquaintances. But it's better to keep to people you truly know. "Have you heard?" Here goes Milly again. It's like she's a fly on the walls of the school. She knows everything. "You're going to say it anyway, so why don't you just go ahead." I say in between my meal. "Hey stop that dude, it's disgusting. No wonder you're grounded." Ronny comments with a scrunched up face. "Are you guys going to listen or what?" Milly say, it's obvious she's getting annoyed. "Go on." I prompt. "So..news going around is that, Ben just put his relationship with Nessa on hold." She says with a huge satisfied smile plastered on her face. Actually, this is the very first intriguing news I've heard from her lips. Ben and Nessa have been together for as long as I can remember. Even though she's a fake boobed, sneaky Queen Bee and he's a prick, they seem to be made for each other. "Why?" I ask. " Because....his eighteenth birthday is in three days. He might be meeting his mate then. And if they're not mates they'll cut ties. If they are... they'll continue from there." She elaborates. "Where do you even hear these stuffs from? I thought you didn't have any friends apart from us." Ronald comments. They're fraternal twins, so they're both eighteenth like me....I'm kidding we're all seventeen almost eighteen. My birthday is in two weeks after theirs. " Please, I have female friends. Where did you think I spend my time away from you two d**k heads." She rolls her eyes so deep I think she can see her brains. "Wait I thought his birthday is in July." I comment. "Newsflash, Len. We're in July." She gives me an 'are you serious' look. "Wow. I thought we were in June." I say. I really did think we were in July. "Mhmmmm." She hums. That's when it clicks like a light switch. "Guys..I'm so sorry. Happy birthday. I forgot today is 15th. I offer a sheepish smile while rubbing the back of my neck. "This is the reason why you're getting your ass handed to you after school." Ronny rumbles. "Heard ya. Now, where are our birthday gifts?" Milly asks with an 'if you say you for got you're dead' look.
