Chapter 20 Sam Fierro paused with his cleaver raised over the lamb carcass spread out across the wooden chopping block and waited for the other shoe to drop. Kate had recruited him to do the day’s butchery. He enjoyed the work, it was a calming, meditative task that he could do with minimal thought. Each animal was different, so attention was required.
