When they arrived at the hospital, Maxson walked her to Edith’s ward. Christabel didn’t feel the need to stop him. She thought that he had already seen her cry and they even fought together. At this point, Christabel felt closer to him than she felt with Austin, which was ironic and laughable when she thought about his proposal.
When they entered the ward, Christabel immediately saw that something was wrong with Edith. Her heartbeat was so soft, Christabel nearly missed it even with her superb hearing. Her face was pale and sunken, and she was sweating buckets. Christabel immediately pressed on the emergency button and went into survival mode.
