Chapter 7
The awkwardness between the men continued, but they both worked hard not to let it interfere with Graham’s dad’s care. Sam had approached Graham on Tuesday before he left, asking if he wanted to request another nurse.
That surprised Graham. He hadn’t even given it a thought. His dad liked Sam, and Graham trusted him. There was no reason to make changes.
Still, Graham tried to keep his distance. No matter how many times he yearned to join them in their walks, or sit on the dock with them, he refrained. He couldn’t help watching them from the window, though, and Sam had caught him more than once.
Lunch proved the one bright spot in Graham’s day as they always sat together and ate.
When Wednesday arrived, Sam brought up the Royals game at lunch.
