Chapter 8: Is Raine A Genius?

"Alright, that will be all today's lesson."
Hearing that, I immediately jumped off the chair and started making my way out of the room.
"Thank you for your lesson Renton-Sensei!"
Right ever since Raine was born, Mother stopped teaching the lessons and hired Renton-Sensei instead. According to Mother Renton-Sensei is Mother's old acquaintance, she used to explore together back when the two were still an adventurer.
Renton-Sensei speciality is magic, so I have occasionally asked her many questions regarding this field, and she answered all of it without holding back since it was also her interest to talk about magic.

"Mother! Raine!" I immediately shouted as soon as arrived at Mother's room.
"Shh!" Mother put a finger against her lip and while holding the Raine. She was asleep.
Gasp!
I put both of my hands against my mouth, not daring to even breath, fearing that it might wake her up. Last time when I wake her up, Mother forbid me for an entire week of pudding!
Please don't wake up, please don't wake up, please don't wake up.
"..."
"aeh..." (Raine)
Nooo! My week worth of puddings!!!
I subconsciously took a glance at Mother who had a harmless smile on her face, but that smile has a deeper meaning behind it.
Gulp.
It's over!
After a while, I reluctantly sighed and gave up, trying to refute would end up in a much worse fate.
"Brthwr!" Raine waved left and right with her small hand.
Yep, I think she called me brother again.
"Raine, did you miss me, your brother?" I ran excitedly towards her and Mother.
As if she understood what I said, she shocked her head.

I felt dejected and my face drained off life.

Right, how can a Six months old baby understand what I just said. It must have been a misunderstanding.
Mother suddenly chuckled, "Raine must be angry because you woke her up."
"How can that be, Mother stop trying to tease me."
Hearing that, Mother chuckled once again in response.
I looked around the room and noticed a few cubes lying around on the ground.
"Mother what are those?"
I immediately walked up to the cubes and squatted down to take a closer look.
Upon close inspection, the cubes had surface engraved on it's surfaces. They were the alphabet of this empire's language.
"Those are alphabet learning cubes gifted by Reneton-Sensei."
"Mother do you think Raine will be able to put them in order?" I curiously asked.
I don't know why but I always have this feeling that Raine's mentality level is much more mature than her peer. She is able to respond to your questions by nodding or shaking her head, thou it could just be a coincidence.
"Ha-ha I don't think so, Raine is only six months old."
Suddenly Raine who was peacefully siting on Mother's lap, started to shuffle around.
"What is it Raine…? Is it that you want try out the cubes?" Mother then gently put her down onto the ground.
As soon as she was on the ground she immediately started crawling forward towards the cubes. Seems like she really did want to give it a try.
After reaching her destination, she immediately started to shuffle around the cubes with her little hands.
Whoa!
About a minute later the cubes all lined up together in sections, although it wasn't really neat, you could still tell which place is which.
When seeing Raine intently shuffling the cubes around, Mother had already walked up and sat down next to us.
We both looked at the cubes and both of our eyes simultaneously widen as if they were going to pop out from our sockets.
They were all placed in the correct order!

This has to be a coincidence right?
How can a six months old baby know the alphabet? What's more she completed it under a minute!'
I took a glance at Mother, and she also took a glance at me. We both had an expression of 'Did this really just happened?'
Without even realising, awkwardness had long filled the room.
"Awah ah!" Raine suddenly called out and held to arms towards Mother, indicating that she wanted to be picked up.
"Raine were you really able to understand the alphabets?", Mother quickly picked Raine up and patted her on the back.
"Eah?", Raine tilted her head as if she didn't understand what she said.
"These Raine, do you understand it?" I quickly picked up a couple of cubes and presented it to her.
Raine blinked in response and then yawning.
"Raine must be sleepy, it was all your Brother's fault for waking you up!" Mother pouted and glared at me.
"I-I'm sorry!" Mother's glares are scary!!!
