Chapter 5For the next week, Jamie spent a great deal of time during the daylight hours amassing more firewood. October had arrived, and as if on cue the weather turned decidedly cool. Lycus appeared and vanished as was his wont, coming into the cabin in the evenings twice before taking off when Jamie got ready for bed.
If the men who were looking for Lycus were in the area, they didn’t show their faces in the vicinity of the cabin. Jamie did wonder if the reason Lycus was so cautious when he came around was because he’d seen them and knew they were up to no good as far as his well-being was concerned. Jamie wouldn’t put it past him to be able to figure that out, given that animals were able to sense people’s moods.
