Serenity It was impossible to measure time while I was chained to that bed. I entertained myself by counting the stains on the ceiling. Seventy-two if you want to know. For weeks, I had been mulling over the words that the Moon Goddess had said to me. “You have to save yourself.” How the f**k did she expect me to do that? I was chained to a bloody bed for God’s sakes! I was nearly to the point of hopelessness, when Bruce came down the stairs one morning, wearing a guilty look. “So… you really didn’t take my money, did you, Melody?” he said quietly. I felt tears burning my eyes. “No. I really dinnit.” I said, my voice cracking. He nodded slowly before coming over to the bed and sitting down beside me. “Fatima stole the money. She was butt hurt about the attention you was gettin’.”
