CHAPTER 23 Sara Beth placed Cuddles on her bed, then paused outside Layken’s bedroom door, knowing how much he hated lying down in the middle of a workday. And she certainly didn’t want to catch him in a compromising situation. After a long moment, she knocked softly. “May I come in?” “Of course,” Layken replied with a grunt. She stepped into the room to see the doctor leaning over a half-dressed Layken, listening to his lungs. When the doctor raised, he slipped the stethoscope around his neck. “I do believe the wheezing is a bit less than yesterday, which tells me the oxygen is doing its job.
