CHAPTER 22 Seymour stood vigilant in the kitchen doorway until Layken cleared the end of the hallway and disappeared into his room. The bed springs creaked from his weight, accompanied by a loud groan as he dropped down onto it. He scrubbed a hand across his bristly chin. Damned if things hadn’t taken a turn for the worse. Not that he regretted his decision to join Sara Beth on the farm. No, sir. In fact, he felt a little guilty for lying to Sara Beth and Layken about the widow Jones firing him.
