Belle: Mother's Fury

1960 Words
“We have to go.” Lisa said as she Locke Reyes with belle. Seeing the intense look in her mother’s face, Belle froze on the bed. She swallowed, looking hastily to her father. Looking to find some succor in Jim, something to shield her from the yet to come rage from her mother. “Hey, darling, just get ready. Do as your mother says.” Mark said, solemnly. His eyes were on the ground. And as he walked to the door, briskly, he nodded to his wife. Belle frowned now. Now, this was not something that she saw every time. The way her father had hastily balled out of the room. She panicked within her heart, scared of the fact that she was left alone. And the even more reason was based on her father would just leave like that. Of the two parents she had, Mark was the understanding one. But to see him leave instantly, something was not right. She looked to her mother, seeking answers in her eyes. However, this was only a wild guess. Lisa was not it when it came to understanding things. She always believed in doing things brashly. Making the hard calls and not caring about others. At least, this was how she saw it. And she hated it. She wished, in her heart, that her mother would have just some more empathy. A little bit more like her dad had for her. “You have to get out of here.” Lisa said. “You already know what is happening, right? There is a death threat and we cannot afford to be here anymore. The longer we stay in Brazil, the worse we will be. So, get set, Now!” In contrast to the other times when she spoke, her voice had taken the harsh tone of before. The authoritative tone in her voice had returned. It showed that she would take nothing less than compliance as she spoke with her daughter. However, Belle had other plans up her sleeves. She narrowed her eyes. Tomorrow, she will officially be an adult. And Prom was just by the corner. She was looking forward to it. To simply oblige her mother now was nothing that she wanted. She wanted to have the independence that came with adulthood. To be able to make the calls herself. Even though there would be consequences, it would be fine. As long as she had the utmost say and control over her life, then it was okay. With that thought In her head, she shook her head at her mother, her lips slightly parted. “I am not going.” She whimpered out. Even though she made up her mind to refuse her mother, her entire frame was shaky. it had to be. She visibly quivered. Her throat muscles constricted on the spot. It was one thing to make her mind. To choose a course of action. To decide to do something but it was another thing to actually do it. Her entire frame groaned in discomfort. The intense glare from her mother totally offset her. Frightened by the frame of her, she dropped her eyes to the ground. Unwilling to be part of the baleful staring anymore. “Are you being serious right now?” Lisa barked out. With heavy stomps of her feet, she made her way to Belle now. “You know that this is all for you. Right? Everything we do is simply for the betterment of you. So you better don’t make this about what I did not bargain for.” Lisa growled in her face. About her? Belle chuckled bitterly. She looked up now, her eyes cold with anger. How was this about her? How was any of this about her? The way they looked at her like she did not matter. At least, her opinion did not matter. They made that pretty clear. The tension in the air. The threat that was casually tossed out. How was any of that about her? It was about her mother. Her father only tried to tag along due to his loyalty. How could her mum say that this was about her? She had no rights. She had no right to say something like that when she had always cut her off from enjoying her life. Annoyed, defiant courage flashed through her body. She looked straight, locking gaze with her mother with her pout in her lips. “How is this about me? Everything you have done, how was it about me?” Belle yelled out to her. “You say it like you are doing me a favor…” “Because I am. Why do you have to be so stubborn?” Lisa yelled out to her. “No, I am not stubborn. You’re the one who is stubborn here.” “Please.” Lisa’s voice dropped now, as she held her hands in a pleading gesture. The painful look in her eye was enough to tell Belle how much this was tough on her. Not the entire situation but the fact that she had to lead with her daughter. She knew her mother as the arrogant woman would rather be dead than plead with her daughter without exuding a show of force. So if this happened now, then something was amiss. Something she was not really getting to know. Something her parents did not see fit for her to know. She had to know all the same.. She just had to. “You mentioned something about a call. And relocating. What exactly are we running from, mother?” Belle asked. Lisa exhaled. She took a shaky breath afterwards, slowly sitting her frame on the bed now. “I know you see me as a monster of sorts.” She said, hugging Belle closer to her. “But I am not one. I actually do care a lot about you and right now, I need you to trust in me. Trust that I have your best interest at heart.” “You have not answered my question, mom. What exactly are we running away from?” Belle asked once more. She was not going to let her mom get off the hook. If Lisa wanted to be a bit conversational without imposing, then she would make sure she had it. She had to know the reasons why all of this was in place. The reasons why they had to suddenly up and run out of the country. Like fugitives. She knew about that. But that was from the stories and Tv. Things she had read whenever she had the chance to read and what she read whenever she had chances to view them. She did not for once imagine that some day, she would be at the end of that coin. Perhaps,s ehmay have imagined it but still, she did not think it was to be in this intensity. If this was some wish she made to some shooting star, now would be the best time for that wish to expire. . She could not not imagine that even a wish like that could be this potent. If at all she made one in the first place. After all, nobody wished for their life to be laced with anxiety and death threats. To be laced with danger. Laced with anxiety that she’d be on the run. At least, Belle reasoned, if she has to be on the run, then she deserved to know one thing. She deserved to know why. “That is not relevant, my daughter.” Lisa said to her. “I have been your mother for a while ke. I gave birth to you and I know the complications that arise from it. But.,,.” “If you know, would it kill you to just tell me? What are we running from?” Belle spoke, rising tk her feet. She turned a quick one, standing in front of her mom now. Her eyes livid as she glared down at her mother. “Tell me, what is the thing that after my life? And who are the people who came for us?” Belle demanded to know. She paused, l*****g her lips. The sound of the vehicle revving up the engine rent the air. She frowned at this, pain racking her temples. Her father bought into it. For him to be revving up the engines already. Did he already believe the story Lisa sold? If that was it, Belle grimaced, she hated it. The way he went about with whatever Lisa proposed. At the sound of it, Lisa rose to her feet now. She threw her hands tk the side, shrugging in desperation. “You have questions, I know. But I promise, I will answer everything once we are out of here.” Lisa said, looking about frantically as she gesticulated. “I promise. But you have to come with us now.” “Are you not listening?” Belle backed away. “I am not going anywhere until I know why this is.” “Are you even noticing what is happening? How do you want me tk talk to you when everything is so tense right now?” Lisa thundered. Belle shook on the spot. The next second, she steeled her heart as she stood her ground. No point in bending over just because Lisa snapped. “You don’t get it. Even though you may have good plans for me, you cannot keep tossing my life like I don’t have a say in it. All my life, I have not had a moment when I did not live it for you and Dad.” “And now is the time you want to rebel? What perfect timing you just have!” Lisa barked out, snapping her fingers. Belle angled her head to the side. She looked at her mother. The desperation in her eyes was glaring. Even though she acted though, the way her pupils darted shout. The occasional twitch of her arms every now and then signified one thing. Lisa was scared. Whatever this was, it did not have her mother in the best shape. “What are you scared of, Mom?” Belle asked. “What exactly are you…” “I can’t. I’m not leaving Brazil for some impromptu trip.” Belle insisted, splaying her hands. “Listen to me, mom. I have a prom in a few days. Tomorrow, by dawn. I will be 18. And you want me to suddenly be in another country like that?” “It’s not a big deal, Belle. Don’t make it one.” Lisa maintained. “Mom. Prom comes once in a life, you know. I can’t miss it for…” “That’s enough!” Lisa barked out. “You talk about your 18th birthday like it’s a big deal. But when are you actually going to grow up?“ “Mom?” Belle moaned weakly. “Not a word.” Lisa commanded with a brisk yell. With a sudden stomp of her feet, she arrived in front of her Belle. Before Belle could react, her entire body stopped off the ground, the strong arms of her mother lifting her. And placing her over the shoulders as Lisa broke into a run. “No… Stop!” Belle protested, struggling to break free. But to no avail. Lisa’s hands were strong. The girls she held her lower body in had her squealing for pain. Anger flowed in her heart for the scene acting out. the way she was carried, humiliation flashed in her eyes. How long, Belle cried out, slapping her hands against Lisa’s back, was that going to continue? How long was she going to be treated like this?
