When he opened his eyes, everything had stopped moving. There was an eerie silence in the air. The sound of metal crushing had faded away.  He felt pain almost throughout his entire body, it was like his brain could not process exactly what hurt and what didn’t. It all merged and radiated pain throughout his body with every beat of his heart.  At the back of his mind he remembered something he had once heard in a movie. ‘Pain was a friend, it lets you know how bad things are, but most importantly it lets you know you are still alive.’ He was indeed still alive and in a s**t load of pain.  He closed his eyes to focus his thoughts and better assess the situation.
