Lia found her fingers to tease the send button in her phone as she prepares to text Cameron to see how he was doing. She found it odd how he hadn't tried to kiss her or texted or called to make further plans. She feared that maybe she had slipped and allowed her seductive nature to come out. Maybe he realized he didn't want her. Too many thoughts spun through her mind before she fell her phone ring on the counter as she went to pour herself a glass of wine.
“Hello?” she asked curiously as of she hadn't been hovering over her phone for the better part of her morning.
“Hey…” she could tell by the voice that it was Cameron but became disheartened when hearing his tone.
“Are you alright?”
“Yeah...are you busy right now?”
“No. I have today off…” she lied.
“Great! Can I take you somewhere?”
“Yeah! Pick me up in an hour?”
“Can’t wait.” he spoke with a slight elevation in his voice that showed excitement. But there had still been a slight depression or maybe regret. Due to these thoughts, she scoured her closet for something conservative yet sexy. After angrily whipping several hangers to the other side of the rod holding the clothes, she came upon a dress she had only worn once.
Having decided on this summer dress that connected at the bottom with a simple button but was otherwise reserved by the skirt/short design of the dress. Its floral design was perfect for the summer season and weather on this particular day. When she finished placing her white heels that connected with a belt around the ankle, she quickly threw her hair into a set of loose curls that connected in the back with a butterfly pin. She then put a thin layer of makeup on her otherwise porcelain complexion before spraying perfume and deodorant, just as Cameron texted in speaking of his arrival.
“I'm here beautiful.” the message red as her face lit up like a child's face on Christmas morning.
“I'm coming down.” she responded quickly as she rushed from her apartment and through the lobby before rushing out to see Cameron leaning against the inside of the apartment building's gate. He was dressed in a long sleeved black shirt and jeans that were faded with age. But her eyes focused upon his toned arms that were visible through the thin fabric of his shirt. Her mind immediately imagined a multitude of scenarios of the s****l nature that ended with her exasperated and satisfied.
“You ready?” He asked as this drew her from her daze and she followed him to a car awaiting them. As she slid within the seat, she found a picnic basket to be in the middle of them and had to move it to get into her seat. She couldn't help but peak into the basket as he shut it on her intrusive gaze.
“Not yet…” he teased as she gave a playful pout.
“Where are you taking me this time?”
“A hidden gem.” he spoke as this was the only clue he gave her until the car came to a stop. But it didn't stop curbside or even in a parking lot, instead it drove through a thin patch of unmade road that extended somewhat of a length distance before ceasing. She was understandably hesitant as the only thing in front of them had been a plethora of trees. It would have been the perfect spot for a murder, which was the only thing on her mind. Maybe there was a collection of knives in the basket or maybe he had it empty to bring her back in pieces. Her mind was horrid to her in this moment as she conjured every twisted way she could be maimed and slaughtered.
“It's just a bit further.” he spoke in his defense as he saw the worry in her eyes. With as much horror that was bouncing around her mind, she found his dreamy eyes and assuring smile to be enough to trust-at least until given a reason not to.
They walked a few steps from the path and through an overlay of branches before coming to a large grass hill overlooking a small pond. It was a popular area for young lovers as many found solitude in embracing each other within their cars. Some had speckled the grass with blankets and even some children along with them, as others seemed hellbent on making children in the park.
But with the different couples, varied in ages, they seemed to allow one another their space with the only sound of any loud volume, being that of a car radio.
“Is this spot alright?” he asked as he chose a dip in the hill that would be comfortable enough while still giving them a version of privacy as most couples say near the lake.
“So what is it that you look for in a girl?” Lia asked as she decided she wanted to hear it from him. He seemed surprised as he pulled out items from the basket and set them on the blanket beneath them.
“Honestly…”he began, “Someone who can just go with the punches. Not uptight. And someone who can take a joke. Someone I can trust.” this made her heart ache as she knew she was deceiving him, but told herself to ignore this specific note. “What about you?” her eyes shot up. She had to tread carefully in order to be what he wanted without making it obvious she was doing so.
“Someone to make me laugh. Someone who can be light and deep...kind but strong… “
“I have to know…” her eyes locked to him as she was fearful that he somehow found out about her employment. She gulped loudly as she gave a polite smile.
“What?”
“How is it a girl-woman like you isn't already spoken for.”
“I guess I was just waiting for the right guy to take me roller skating.” she watched as the dark cloud he seemed to have hanging over him had now fell to pieces and the sun showed through his smile.
“What about you? Nobody try to take you off the market?”
“There have been girls…” his eyes fell to the side as he seemed still hurt by whatever pain his heart had suffered in the recent heartbreaks.
“Can I know?”
“You want to?” his brows shot up in surprise as he now finished playing down the entire lunch spread. Salmon spread had been placed on crackers with small containers of soup and veggie bowls with bottles of water.
“I would like to know...if it isn't too hard-”
“Only if you're sure. I don't want to be one of those people who talks about their exes the whole time-”
“I asked…” she reassured him with a kind caress of his forearm. As he explained the story of Jewel to her, she listened closely while eating on the crackers that he had carefully prepared to impress.
“Well her name was Jewel.” Be began. “We met in high school but only started dating after we graduated. We lived together...I had even bought a ring...but I stumbled upon messages of her with some guy…”
“No…”
“She swears nothing happened and that it was just flirting but I saw pictures she sent to him…” he stopped. “I said things I'm not proud of and she said she didn't regret it because of how boring I was. When I told her about the ring, she completely changed her tune and was sorry and wanted to fix it.”
“And it was you who decided to walk away?”
He nodded. “It was hard and if not for Perry and Logan-my best friends, I wouldn’t have ever met someone like you.”
“What makes you say that?”
“They saw you walk into the bar that night and were pushing me to go talk to you. It's kinda funny but I went to bring your purse to you when I saw you leave it on the bar and turned and you were gone. I got worried but knew how it would look if I had followed you...so I just stayed close.”
“I'm glad you did….you saved my life…”
“No…”
“Yes...who knows what that...what would have happened if you didn't intervene.”
As a back and forth ensued of trying to paint him as a hero while he kept modest, his attention then froze to that of a couple who voiced their arrival loud enough to make even those in sealed up cars to know of their existence. It was a moment that Lia came to dread as she knew who the girl in that relationship was. It was Jewel. She was everything a guy could want but nothing he needs. At least not longer than it takes to get his rocks off. She stood in short shorts and a tank top with her breasts nearly exposed for all to see. But it was the way that Cameron looked at this other girl that made her insecure. While his gaze was focused upon Jewel, she moved to the bottom of her dress and unbuttoned it to a lower her perfectly smooth legs to see the sun.
“Is that her?” She asked as he hung his head low in embarrassment.
“I'm sorry…”
“Don't be…” his eyes met with hers.
“But I have this drop dead gorgeous woman next to me and all I can do is talk about someone who isn't even worth it…”
“I wanted to know…” she said calmly.
“You aren't mad?”
“No. It's not like you brought me here just to spite her suddenly his cheeks drew red.
“I feel like a d**k…”
“Well if you brought me here to make her jealous….” he watched as she mounted him, having placed her hands on his shoulders to steady herself before angling herself to have one leg on either side. “We might as well do what you came here for…”
His eyes grew wide and his lips parted gently as he could anticipate her kiss. Her palm set soft upon his cheek as her other arm rested on the back of his neck.
“You don't have to-” his words ceased as she brought herself closer to his kiss. Close enough to feel the breath escape from his mouth and fall against hers.
“I want to.” she said softly while pressing her lips against his. It was a kiss that made them both forget of the eyes watching them. Her fingers wrapped in his dark strands as she fell the desperation within his kiss. His fingers pulled on her fabric, digging into her as he pulled her deeper against him. He brought one hand to her cheek as hers moved to his shoulders. His free arm that had been holding himself up had wrapped around her back as she basked in the feeling of his passion hard against her.
He pulled away for a second as he set his hand behind her neck and gently pulled her hair so she would tilt her head back. When she had done this, he moved his lips gracefully down her chin until they came to a rested spot below her ear.
“Is she looking?” Lia asked as he smirked against her neck before resuming a kiss. “I don’t care.” Their lips connected once more as Lia opened her eyes enough to see Jewel scowling at them, but this was the least of her problems. She found a burning increase in her libido as she wanted him. Here and now. And without a censor or moment of hesitation, she set them apart gently and spoke.
“Do you want to get out of here?”
