Elizabeth set the photograph down on the desk again. Sawyer had not responded to her, and she wished that she knew what he was thinking about. She slipped off his knee and gathered up the file the letter had been tucked away in. “Are you hungry?” He shook his head silently. He was still looking at the photograph, and she suspected he was trying to figure out exactly how serious she had been when she said that she wanted to find her family. If she had not mentioned the idea they might be able to ask her father’s family for help he would have brushed it off as one of those offhand impulsive comments she made without really meaning to follow up. It would be nice to know for sure, but it wasn’t something he had considered a priority; now it seemed like it was actually a good idea. Eliz
