Francesca waited silently in the shadow of a huge old fir tree for Jonas to return.
She had traveled for hours with him through the snow-covered forest, but when they got closer to his family’s territory he asked her to remain hidden until he knew that things were safe.
She had been tempted to follow him because she was confident he wouldn’t have known, but she decided that she would respect his request even though it was not what she would have chosen to do.
