CHAPTER 2 – LET’S GO BACK

1057 Words
Early the subsequent morning, Dr. Hilbert and Dr. Shaw reported at the laboratory much before sunrise and without wasting any time, they started building the damaged wall. Both of them knew that it wasn't the right thing to do. Unfortunately, they had no other choice other than firefighting.   Their experiment resulted in a much bigger outcome that seemed to be more harmful than it seemed otherwise. Bringing a person to life with such a weird superpower could certainly be life-threatening to the rest of the race. Immortality has been the answer one needs, and it's also been sought since the very old times.   But being successful in incorporating it in a human body without proper support to aid protection, control and legal help had to be a crime. And that's where they went wrong. Their peace of mind was disturbed for this reason since they didn't know if the man-wolf would do anything wrong, and if it did, then the intensity of it wouldn't have been possible to guess without actually witnessing it.   The broken part of the wall they covered with bricks and cement. The wet cement would dry in the time frame of the weekend, and then they would paint the whole wall so that no one would be able to notice it any different. The first-aid of this plan of theirs was working fine, but it was still very difficult for both of them to maintain some silence internally with the damage that they had caused. More of it was expected since the man-wolf had escaped from their control.   Soon after they were done with the wall, it was bright enough since it was time for the sun to rise and for them to look around for the man-wolf in the jungle. They did not want to find him, catch him and hunt him down, but all that they wanted to know was the state of the creature which they created in the laboratory.   At first, they were being brave, but as they walked a little inside the jungle and heard a howl, they ran back to get in their cars and head home right away. Even though a real animal had done the howling, but it still loosened the grip of the scientists' pants.   After they drove a little further, Dr. Hilbert stopped his car. Seeing that, Dr. Shaw pulled his car over behind his fellow scientist's automobile. "What are we doing?" Dr. Hilbert asked him. "We are scientists and look at us, we are running away from our experiment," he added. "You are right. Let's go back and do our best to save the world," Dr. Shaw mentioned.    Wanting to understand how successful their experiment was in order to know and be able to propose this experiment legally to the higher authorities was their prime motive. They learnt their lesson of not doing experiments without getting the approval of the authorities, but for now, it was too late.   As it's been said for ages for long, if something has to go wrong, it starts with the thoughts which you get in your mind, and then it makes you choose the action which is not right. For something to go wrong, it will find a way through your actions which will become illogical.   Your mindset changes because the 'wrong' begins in your mind and the priority you give to that thought. So, the two scientists packed their bags and put them away in their cars so that they could head to the forest area to search for the man-wolf roaming around freely there.   Meanwhile, somewhere inside the jungle, the man-wolf was still alive and searching for its food. He was hungry and craved for blood. It was his luck that two humans were coming to him to be killed and also to be relished by him after all it was going to be the first time he fed on humans.   Both the scientists were holding each other's hands in fear while they were walking inside the jungle. Suddenly, they heard the sound of someone walking on the dead leaves behind them. They turned around to confirm what sound it was, and they spotted the werewolf.   It need not be mentioned what must have happened as the hungry man-wolf saw the two scientists. He took giant steps to be in an attack-able radius while the scientists stood there like statues. The man-wolf held one of them, Dr. Shaw, in his hand and the other scientist, Dr. Hilbert, ran away at the speed of light to save himself despite it being his idea to come back to the jungle and find the creature.   The werewolf's canines dug deep into Dr. Shaw's upper body and ripped him from his life. It was the end of Dr. Shaw's life in the man-wolf's hands. He did not leave even an inch of Dr. Shaw's body on the ground. It all went inside his stomach since he had been hungry soon after he ran away from the laboratory.   Once he was done eating the man alive with Dr. Shaw's blood dripping from the werewolf's mouth, he felt a lot lighter than before, and as it was becoming day, he turned back to being a human. The wolf hair from his body was gone, the canines got smaller and fit into his mouth, his eyes also became white just like the rest of the humans.   The werewolf had become Dr. Dread, the scientist who willingly gave away his body to his fellow scientists to be the subject of this experiment. However, there was something missing about him. He wasn't smart enough to walk away from the jungle now. He accepted that it was his new home, and he even forgot about his family. He just wanted to stay in the forest now.   Now that his stomach was full, his eyes were closing. So, he found a comfortable place that could shelter him. He lied down on the ground with leaves around, and closed his eyes at just one instance without realizing what actually happened to him and the drastic changes in his body.    The question right now was how much time he was going to take to realize that he was now a werewolf and, more importantly, what would happen the following night when he would start feeling hungry again.
