6. The assembly
Present day, London
Adrian was still sleeping when Sarah woke up. Her sleep didn’t follow the natural rhythm of the sun as that of other vampires, given that the light of day had no particular effect on her.
She stretched and went to check if Sean was sleeping calmly. In truth, there was no need to. She could hear him breathing from a hundred feet away, if she concentrated, and in that moment she could feel he was dreaming. But she wanted to see him and stroke his head delicately, before preparing for the council meeting.
She was still looking at him when she heard Adrian wake up. She heard him go to the bathroom, open the jet of water and jump into the shower. She heard him whistling while he shaved his beard. A second later he was in the nursery and he was smiling at
