Avery
I ride silently in the limo, lost in my head. I just spent the night with a werewolf. The handsome and charming CEO of my company is a werewolf, and I am his mate. I was still having trouble wrapping my head around that.
“Is everything alright, Luna?” the driver asks me.
“What? Oh, I am fine,” I shrug.
“Are you sure, Luna?” He looks back at me.
“Do you have to call me that?” I ask.
“It’s the proper way to address you,” he explains.
“You don’t have to do that,” I say to him. “Just call me Avery.”
He looks back at me nervously. “I can’t do that.”
“Why?” I wonder.
“It’s not proper,” he replies.
I sigh heavily. “Fine. What is your name?” I ask him.
“Todd,” he replies. “We are here.”
“Where?” I ask absentmindedly.
“Your home, Luna,” he answers.
I look out the window to see my family standing in front of the house. “Oh, thank you, Todd,” I say and exit the limo. I turn to my mother and gulp when I see her face. “Hi, Mom,” I wave and walk up the path.
My sisters are right behind her. “Whoa, Avery, where did you get the limo?” Amanda asks.
“You must have slept with a rich guy,” Kaitlyn says.
“Kaitlyn,” Mom yells. My sister shrugs.
“Are you mad at me?” I ask.
Mom doesn’t say anything and walks back into the house. My sisters look at me and giggle.
Uncle Roger is in the house with my brother and cousins. “Hey kiddo,” He greets me. “What trouble were you getting into?” he asks. “Your mother had me searching the city all night.”
I shrug. I’m not ready to say. “I got a little tipsy and stayed at Sean's place.”
My uncle gives me a look and shakes his head.
I go into my room and collapse onto my bed. I lay there for a minute, and then someone knocked on the door. “What?” I groan.
“Avery, it's me,” my best friend says. "I need to talk to you.”
I groan again. No doubt he is going to lecture me about getting too drunk and leaving without him. My door flies open, and I turn over to look at Sean.
He looks at me and then bows his head, “Luna,” he says.
“Not you, too,” I roll back over. “Wait, are you a-" I look at my best friend.
He nods slowly, “Yes.”
“How come you never told me?”
Sean sits on the edge of my bed. “I have to keep the secret.”
“So, you have been a werewolf all this time?” I shake my head.
“Yeah,” he repeats. “But I am still your best friend. I am still Sean Wise.”
I sit up and try to lean my head on his shoulder like I always have, but he moves away. “What?”
He shakes his head, “Sorry, Avery. I don’t want to get in trouble.”
I give him a dirty look. “You aren’t going to get into trouble.”
Sean goes to say something when Amanda comes in. “There is a cute guy here to see you,” he says.
Sean stiffens as I get up and walk out of my room. I shake my head as I walk down the hall. Amanda elbows me and gives me a wink. I smell sandalwood as I get close to the living room. Then I hear his voice. He is talking to Uncle Roger.
Everyone stops talking as I walk into the room. My mother and Aunt Leanne are on the couch while Jayden sits with my cousin Logan on the floor. Uncle Roger is standing behind the couch, talking to him. He looks at me, and a huge smile breaks out across his face.
“Hello, Avery,” Tristan says.
The sound of his voice sends shivers down my spine. I shudder and smile back, “Hi.” Our eyes lock on one another. For a moment, I forget that my family is in the room. Tristan crosses the room and clasps my hand, causing me to swoon.
“Oooo, Avery has a boyfriend,” Kaitlyn’s voice breaks me from the trance.
I shake my head and look at every one. “This is Tristan,” I say.
“We know,” Jayden says.
“Can we talk?” Tristan asks me.
“Yes,” I say and take his hand. “Excuse me,” I say and lead Tristan down the hall. We pass Sean, and he bows his head. I take Tristan into my room. “What?” I say.
Without warning, he pushes me against the walk and kisses me passionately. At first, I tried to push him away but then gave in. I wrap my arms around his neck and let out a slight moan.
A low growl comes from Tristan as he touches my cheek. We deepen the kiss, and I moan again. “Do you know what your cute little moans do to me?” He looks me in the eye. “I just needed to see you again,” he says, then sniffs the air. A low growl rumbles out of him, “There was another man in here.”
“What?” I asked, confused. “There was no other guy—“Then I remembered Sean was just in here. “Oh, you mean Sean?” I chuckled.
“He’s the omega that was concerned about you at the club,” Tristan muses.
“He is my best friend,” I state, “He is like a brother to me. My parents treated him like a third son.”
“Are you sure that was it?” Tristan asks. His eyes have turned from green to almost black.
“Just family comes in here,” I scoff. “God, are you jealous?” I chuckled again.
Tristan sighed, “It's our nature to be jealous of any males near our mates. Alpha werewolves,” he said, pulling me into his strong arms again, “are especially possessive.” He dips his nose in the crook of my neck and inhales.
“Look, I won’t be near any other guys except for family and the guy I work with,” I say to him.
He kisses me again. “Good,” he growls.
I let out another moan, and we deepened the kiss. He starts pawing at my shirt. I take it off, and he walks me back toward my bed.
“Avery,” my mother barges into the room.
Tristan pulls me against him. “Mom!” I yell. “What?” I ask her.
She looks at us momentarily, “Is your friend staying for dinner?”
I look at Tristan.
“Sure, I will stay for dinner. What are we having?” He smiles at Mom.
“Pizza,” she replies.
“Okay,” I say. “We’ll be right down.”
Mom says nothing, “Be sure to put your shirt back on,” she mumbles as she walks out.
“Sorry about that,” I say.
Tristan laughs, “It’s alright.”
“We should probably go back out,” I say as I look for my shirt.
Tristan picks it up and hands it to me. “It’s for the best.”
I give him a weird look.
“I wouldn’t have been able to stop,” he winks.
I pulled my shirt on, and we walked out of the room.
