Avery
“My name is Victor,” the gorgeous man standing in front of me purrs.
“Victor,” I say with a smile.
“Would you like a drink, Avery?” Victor asks with a flick of his hair.
I just nod and he lightly grabs my arm and pulls me towards the bar. “Your hand is cold,” I say.
“Hmm,” He mutters. “What would you like, dear?” He shouts over the music.
“One of the pink drinks,” I say.
Victor nods and holds his hands up to the bartender, “Two,” he says. “You are very beautiful,” he says while we are waiting for our drinks.
“Um, thanks,” I say while moving a strand of hair behind my ear.
“You don’t think so?” Victor asks with a tilt of his head.
I shrug.
“Hmm,” he says and lightly grazes his fingers on my bare shoulder. The bartender sets our drinks down and Victor hands one to me. “Bottoms up,” He smiles again showing off what look like vampire fangs.
I say nothing as I down the drink.
“You like that?” Victor asks.
I nod.
“Two more,” He snaps his fingers. “Shall we have some fun?” He says closer to my ear with his lips nearly touching my skin.
Shivers run down my spine as I feel mesmerized by this man. Something deep within tells me there is danger but I ignore it.
“Here,” Victor hands me a new drink. “Let’s go over there,” He gestures to a couch off to the side. “We can hear better. Well, you can.”
I say nothing and follow him to the couch. It sinks low and I yelp as I splash my drink. “Sorry,” I say. “I wasn’t expecting it to sink so low,” I laugh.
“Hmm,” Victor says and sips his drink. “You are a funny creature, Avery,” he says my name in a strange manner.
I sip on my drink.
“So, tell me about yourself,” He smirks.
“Oh, there isn’t much to say,” I shrug. “I just started working for Emerson Industries as a secretary.”
“Really?” He says. “You aren’t a wolf.”
“Um, no, I am not a wolf,” I laugh nervously.
“You are human.”
“Last I checked,” I laugh again.
Victor leans towards me. “You smell delicious,” He licks his lips.
“Thanks,” I say. “I just put on some old perfume I had.”
“Oh, that’s not what I am smelling,” He whispers and scoots closer to me. He grins again showing off his strange teeth. “Do you believe in monsters, Avery?”
“Not really,” I say while shaking my head as a chill goes up my spine.
“How long have you lived in Pearlmoor?” He asks.
“All of my life,” I state.
“And you don’t believe in monsters?” He smirks. “This town is full of them.”
“I guess,” I say. “My father was killed by a monster,” I say. “The human variety.”
“Are you sure it was a human that killed your father?” Victor asks.
“Of course,” I laugh. “What else could it have been?”
He grazes my cheek with a cold finger, “You are beautiful but naïve, Avery.”
I say nothing and sip my drink as Victor stares at me. “So, how long have you lived in Pearlmoor?”
Victor smiles, “I have lived here off and on for two hundred years.”
“What?” I laugh. “Two hundred years? Or it feels like two hundred years?”
Victor shows off his fangs, “You will soon learn the truth of the world dear, Avery,” He touches my shoulder as his eyes seem to become redder. “Are you hungry?” He asks in a near whisper. “I am starving.”
I stare unbelieving as he begins to kiss my neck. I am unsure of what to do as the kissing sends strange tingles through my body and not pleasant like the ones I felt with Tristan. “Whoa,” I say and try to push Victor off me.
“No, no,” He hisses and presses me against the couch. “Not until I have had my meal.”
“What?” I gasp as I feel a prick on my neck. “What are you doing?” I say but he presses his hand over my mouth.
“Can’t have you screaming,” He smiles. “It will be over soon.”
I try to scream as I suddenly realize what is happening as Victor locks his fangs on my neck. I struggle to push him off, but I am no match for his strength. I start to see stars as I lay there praying for help. Then like an answer Victor is suddenly pulled off me and flung across the room while Tristan stands beside me.
Through weary vision I watch as a brief fight between Victor and Tristan ensues. Victor punches Tristan who punches back with a growl. My brain is having trouble processing what is happening, so I pass out.
