Jordan listen’s all conversation of Yall Paulo and Rulf; Rulf seeing its advantage comes in the words of Yall Paulo, and Yall succeeds in fighting between the two brothers, Jordan and the king Guzman are on one side, and Yall Paulo and Rulf become one side. Jordan and King Guzman takes all his warriors and waits for Yall Paulo and his companions. Torstein and Arne come to Jordan and ask him.
Torstein: There’s is no sign of him.
Arne: Perhaps they won’t come.
Jordan: Oh, Yall Paulo has many reasons to come, so he will come.
King Guzman: We will wait for the treacherous devil, as well as your brother, unless you have heard from Rulf otherwise.
Jordan: No, King Guzman. I have had no message from my brother, but I still believe in my heart that he will not betray me, for he has no reason.
Herbert: Who needs a reason for betrayal? One must always think the worst, Jordan, even of your own kin, that way you avoid too much disappointment in life.
Jordan waits for Yall Paulo, Jordan thinks that Yall Paulo will fight must, Herbert comes to Jordan and says there is the treacherous one. I was right Jordan.
On the other hand, Yall is preparing for war with his companions, Yall asks Rulf.
Yall Paulo: Any regrets, Rulf?
Rulf: No regrets.
Yall Paulo: Then let us fight; let the gods decide the outcome.
Man: Rider approaching!
Yall Paulo: What is it you want?
Rider: I’m here on behalf of Jordan Korg; I want to speak to his brother.
Rulf: Then speak.
Rider: Rulf, you and I fought together many times, I don’t suppose you’ve forgotten, I think of you as a brother, but over there is your real brother, your own flesh and blood, are you sure you want to raise your ax against him?
Rulf: Did Jordan send you?
Rider: What answer shall I give him?
Rulf: Tell him, I shall answer him with blood.
Jordan and Rulf face off in battle with their warriors.
Jordan: Shield-wall!
Yall Paulo: Shield wall!
Jordan: Spears! Charge!
Jordan & Rulf's warriors run and attack each other, Rulf kills many Jordan companions, and Jordan also fights and kills many Yall's warriors. Rulf kills Arne badly and then attacks Herbert; Herbert is seriously injured, when Jordan sees that Herbert falls to the ground with bad injury. Jordan comes to fight with Rulf.
Jordan: Is this what you really want, brother?
Rulf: I cannot fight with you.
Rulf sits cross-legged on the ground in front of Jordan and surrenders. After the fight, King Guzman, Yall Paulo and Jordan all sit down together and discuss the land.
King Guzman: Without being defeated, we have grown weary of the slaughter of our young men. So, Yall Paulo, I offer you on third of the profit from the disputed lands, unless you continue to dispute my claim to it.
Yall Paulo: I would rather go back fighting, than receive such scant justice.
King Guzman: So, you will not accept my fair offer?
Yall Paulo: No.
Jordan: Why do we continue looking inwards? Why? Why do we fight with each other about this piece of land or that piece of land? Why are we not looking outwards? I have already found a passage west. We, we have seen rich and arable land over there, and there must be more, we must stop this. If we raided together, we would not need to fight among-st ourselves. We would not need to kill any more of our young folk, but instead offer them land, land that they can farm.
King Guzman: My minds tend the same way as Jordan’s. It is my intention to join with him and sail west, what do you say Yall Paulo?
Yall Paulo: Yes, I will raid with you, and so I accept your offer.
After agreeing to King Guzman and Yall Paulo, Jordan goes to Rulf and says it.
Jordan: Not that you’d care, brother, but your niece Fanky, is dead, it's time to go home.
Jordan returns with all his warriors, as they reach Kattegat, everyone stands up there. Alga gets very upset when she sees Herbert is injured, Abigail and Michael come to Jordan, and hug them. They all go home after that, Jordan tells Abigail.
Jordan: We fought all day, Yall Paulo would not give in, nor us, many died. One-eye died.
Michael: Arne?
Jordan: Rulf killed him, and Herbert may not survive for he is so badly wounded.
Abigail: This was not your quarrel, you should not have become involved, look what has happened!
Jordan: No man can walk through life without things happening to him, Abigail.
Abigail: You chose.
Jordan: Yes, I chose, and Rulf chose, and Rulf’s choice led to all of this!
Mason: Don’t argue, you too.
Jordan: I’m weary and I’m blood-sickened, and that is the truth.
Abigail: Who is Ella?
Jordan: Stop!
Abigail: Who is Ella?
Jordan: She is a Got-land princess, we met her over there.
Abigail: You just met her?
Debby: Abigail!
Jordan: What has the boy told you? What did you tell her, boy?
Abigail: It doesn’t matter what Mason says, what do you say?
Jordan: I say… we should not wash our dirty cloths in front of others.
Abigail: Did you have s*x with her?
Jordan: Yes, I had s*x with her.
Abigail: How many times?
Jordan: Once. But I don’t love her, how can I make you let this go?
Abigail: Never see her again.
Jordan: Done.
Jordan kisses Abigail and then has s*x with her; Abigail promises that you will never see her again.
Next morning Mason asks father.
Mason: Why are there such problems between you?
Jordan: You know, why?
Mason: But I don’t want there to be problems, can’t you just say sorry for what you have done?
Jordan: It’s not so easy with your mother.
Mason: And what will happen to Rulf?
Jordan: I cannot judge my own brother, we will have an assembly and the law giver will judge. We will take Rulf up to the Law Rock, and that is where his fate will be decided.
Mason: What’s that you have?
Jordan: A gold coin, from England, you see. It even has king Anna’s face upon it.
Mason: So it’s worth a fortune?
On the other hand, Torstein is carried away Rulf, and locks the Rulf in the room and ties it with ropes, Debby comes to meet Rulf, Torstein asks Debby.
Torstein: What do you want?
Debby: To talk to him.
Torstein goes from there, and Debby runs to Rulf.
Debby: Rulf, it’s me.
Rulf: Don’t bother; you cannot warm up a dead man.
Rulf is brought to the middle path; everyone curses him and kills him.
Man 1: He is without honor.
People as your Law Giver, I have been asked to determine the fate of this man. This man chose to fight with our enemies, chose to fight against his brother.
Man 2: Traitor!
Law Giver: He killed many of our sons, brothers, and fathers. What hope is there for him?
(All shouting)
Torstein: He has no defense!
Man: Yes, he has no defense!
Law Giver: This man deserves to die, we all know that but I have decided to spare him.
All: What? No!
Law Givers: I have taken the advice of the gods, if they had wanted him dead, he would have died in battle, but they spared him, he came forward and threw himself upon the mercy of his brother. He behaved in an interesting and unexpected way, and therefore I conclude that the gods have made their own judgment, which I cannot overturn. I therefore order this man be set free.
Man: Kill the traitor!
Torstein goes to Jordan and says.
Torstein: We should kill him anyway, you are the Earl of this Kattegat!
Jordan: No, we must obey the Law Giver.
Torstein: Who is the law Giver? Just an ordinary man.
After hearing Law giver's decision, Rulf comes to Jordan, and he says I wanted to step out of your shadow, you understand that, don’t you? But when I stepped out of it, there was…there was no sunlight, no sunlight at all.
Rulf wants to leave Kattegat, packs his luggage, Debby comes to meet Rulf and says to him.
Debby: What are you doing?
Rulf: Leaving, everyone hates me here with good reason, I have betrayed them. There is no point in my staying.
Debby: You are going to leave and not even say good bye to me?
Rulf: I thought you would prefer it that way.
Debby: Do you really know me so little?
Rulf: I have nothing to offer you, it would have been better for you, for me, for everyone if I had been executed.
Debby: So you take no account of the gods? What is it the gods have offered you?
Rulf: A lifetime of humiliation.
Debby: No, that is not it; the gods have offered you a chance to be reborn, to be redeemed, and to gain Valhalla that is what they had offered you, but you, you want to run away, you want to hide in a hole somewhere.
Rulf: Where else can I go?
Debby: Why do you have to go anywhere?
Next morning, Jordan sits by the river and remembering his daughter Fanky, and in his mind he sees her face.
Jordan: Fanky, I have come to say goodbye to you properly, I have been thinking about you, about when you were small, you were so lively, you could run as swiftly as the wind, you were like quicksilver, but then, before I knew it, you stopped running here and there and everywhere and you became still. At 12 years old, you had the stillness and the calm of a fine woman, what children you would have produced, what joy that would have brought to all of us. Dear child, Fanky you are not gone because you are always in my heart, this say that a man must love his sons more, but a man can be jealous of his sons, and his daughter can always be the light in his life. I know very well that you are with the gods, but I will wait here awhile, and if you want to come and talk to me, then come and talk, and I will gently stroke your long and beautiful hair once again with my peasant hands.
Jordan lies down by the river and sleeps there, Next morning, a ship arrives. Mason runs to his father.
Mason: Father! Father!
Jordan: What?
Mason: There’s someone coming.
Man: Keep steady! Take the oars! Pulls in the ropes!
When Jordan passes by, he sees Queen Ella coming into the ship, and he kept Jordan's baby alive, Abigail gets very angry when she finds out that Queen Ella has reached Kattegat behind Jordan, Abigail fights with Jordan, but Jordan tells Abigail.
Jordan: You must believe me, I had no idea, I did not ask her to come.
Queen Ella goes to Jordan's house, when Abigail sees that Ella is pregnant so she doubts that this child belongs to Jordan, Jordan introduces Abigail.
Jordan: Abigail, Queen Ella.
Abigail: I know who it is, Jordan, Queen Welcome to Kattegat.
Queen: Thank you, Abigail.
Abigail: This is our son, Mason.
Queen: I know, Mason. Hello, Mason.
Abigail: You must have had a tiring Journey, come and eat.
Queen: Thank you, you are very kind, I knew you would be.
Everyone sits at the dinner table, then the conversation begins, Abigail asks the Queen Ella.
Abigail: Mason told me that your mother was the shield-maiden, Brunhilde of whom we’ve all heard.
Queen: It’s true, although she died when I was very young.
Abigail: And your father?
Queen: My father was Sigurd.
Abigail: Sigurd? Just Sigurd?
Queen: No, I mean the Sigurd who, according to the sages, killed the dragon Fafnir.
Abigail: Then your father is also a hero.
Queen: People talk about him, it’s true, and I’m proud that he was my father, but I never knew him, what about your parent?
Abigail: Hmm. They were just farmers.
Queen: Surely nobody is just a farmer.
Abigail: Believe me, Queen Ella, that is exactly what some people are, and are happy to be.
Queen: Forgive me, do you remember me, Mason? Do you remember we stood in front of the tree of life?
Mason: It wasn’t Yggdrasil, it was just a tree.
Queen: You are right; we both know that, it creates a bond between us.
Mason: I don’t think so, we don’t have any bond, and I don’t want any bond with you.
The next day Mason says to his father Jordan.
Mason: Why don’t you just tell her that she has to leave soon? She cannot stay here more.
Jordan: She is carrying my child.
Mason: She brings unhappiness and difficulty, can’t you see that? Are you blind, Father?
Jordan: I know it is hard for you to accept, but unhappiness is more common than happiness. Who told you, you should be happy? You have come to an age where you must grow up and be responsible about such things. When I was your age, I had many friends, all are dead, their happiness neither here nor there.
Abigail gets very upset with the arrival of Queen Ella, Debby asks Abigail.
Debby: How much do you know about this woman?
Abigail: Only what Mason told me, which was not much, he did not wish to be disloyal to his father. I did not she was carrying his child, though.
Debby: And you believe it?
Abigail: Jordan believes it.
Debby: What of all her stories of Brunhilde and Sigurd?
Abigail: I suppose so, she is clearly different from all of us.
Debby: What are you going to do?
Abigail: I don’t know, I must do what is right for my son.
Herbert's wounds heal, Mason and Jordan goes to Herbert.
Mason: Herbert! How are you, now?
Herbert: I’m not dead yet, Mason. No thanks to you, Jordan.
Jordan: Oh, say what you’d like about me, I’m just glad that the gods were stupid enough to save you.
Herbert: The gods and Alga.
Jordan: You must regain your strength. There is much to do, a whole fleet of boats to be built, you and I have seen nothing yet, our journey have just begun.
Herbert: It’s true, I thought I was dead, and while I was dead, I was dreaming of other places, the places you and I shall sail to, Jordan.
Jordan: Rest Herbert! Come on, boy.
Jordan and Mason meet Herbert and go back in the afternoon, at night Herbert goes to Jordan's hall with Alga and Torstein, Mason runs to greet Herbert.
Mason: Herbert!
Man: Hey, Herbert!
Herbert: Hello, Mason!
Abigail welcomes Herbert; everyone sits at the dinner table. The queen puts a lot of flowers and different dishes in front of Jordan.
Queen: I hope you will accept what I have chosen and prepared for you.
Abigail: I did not expect you to go to so much trouble.
Queen: It is no trouble, if it is pleasing to you.
Abigail: To tell you the truth, I did not imagine you could cook.
Queen: I can’t, my women cooked, I just bought the ingredients.
Jordan: Looking at both of you here, in my home, I see no reason why you two should not get on together, you two are very different, yet both strong. I have heard that similar arrangements exist all over this country.
Abigail: What arrangements?
Jordan: That an Earl can live with more than one woman. In fact, it is not unusual; it works to the benefit of everyone, especially the children, of both marriages, of course.
Queen: It’s true, I know of many such instances.
Jordan: Yes.
Abigail: Is that what you are suggesting?
Jordan: If I were, what would you say?
Abigail doesn't answer Jordan; she goes to bed to sleep and thinks about her future, Abigail can't share Jordan. After a while Jordan comes and tells Abigail.
Jordan: I’m sorry Abigail, but this woman is carrying my child, I must take care of her and you must accept her, when we lost our unborn son, it broke my heart, I had failed and I will not fail again, I cannot turn this woman away, I have to take care of my child.
Abigail doesn't answer Jordan and she decides to leave the Jordan house, next day she packs her luggage with Mason, Herbert and Torstein comes to Abigail.
Herbert: You are leaving then.
Abigail: Of course I’m leaving.
Torstein: Is Mason going with you.
Abigail: That’s up to Mason.
Torstein understands Mason by taking him alone.
Torstein: Mason, you have a big choice to make, I admire your mother, we all do, but you have to stay with your father, if you don’t you will regret it for the rest of your life. Remember your father is Jordan korg.
Abigail meets Debby for the last time, and she calls Mason and asks him.
Abigail: Mason, you have to choose, say it now.
Mason: I choose my father.
Abigail: Very well!
Abigail loves Mason; it seems very difficult for Abigail to leave Mason and Mason cries a lot after his mother leaves. Jordan is unaware of all this matter, when he returns home, and he sees that Mason crying a lot, so he asks Mason.
Jordan: What?
Mason: Mother’s left.
Jordan runs after Abigail, and finds Abigail on the way, Jordan tells Abigail.
Jordan: You are really going to abandon me without even saying a word?
Abigail: You insult and humiliate me, I have no choice but to leave you and divorce you.
Jordan: I don’t want you to go.
Abigail: It’s fate.
Mason runs after Jordan, and says I’ve changed my mind, I’m coming with you mother.
Jordan hugs Mason, and loved him, and gives permission to mason to go with the mother, and says to Mason look after your mother. Jordan's eyes filled with tears as he watched that Abigail and Mason go away from him.
