6. Wolfless

I rubbed my hands on my forehead as I try to lessen the tension I'm feeling. The clock ticks slowly approaching my dreadful moment. I laid in bed waiting for the time to reach so I can get it over and done with. The pack has been busy because the Alpha's son is coming in after the full moon. Most of the pack members are busy with the preparation and so is Ava. A lot of gossips have been flying around lately, the Alpha's son had already found his mate against his father's earlier arrangement and he will be bringing her to the pack. I closed my eyes trying to block out the ticking clock, it's making me anxious. The door is pushed open and my mother barged in. "Hurry up and get prepared, you need to get ready for the full moon."My mother said in a hasty tone. I sit up from the bed, it's still a few hours to the full moon. She throws a dress and the bed instructing me to put the dress on. I feel my nerves rapidly ticking. "I would have to ripped off this beautiful dress, I should just wear something simple."I said pitying the orange dress that would get ruined if I wolf out in it. "And it will make the memories more important to you.."My mother insisted. I got out of bed and changed in the bathroom before walking back into the room. "You should be excited for this, seeing your wolf for the first time, running in your wolf form, using the mindlink, you look rather worn out."She stared at me with widened eyes. I could only smile at her, I have a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. What if everything doesn't turn out well. I might not even get a strong wolf. She shook her head, "We should get going." "But it's still about two hours before the full moon," "Rose please... We need to get the best spot for you to shift."She groaned. I nodded. "But it's not really a big deal.." I was interrupted by the door, the door is pushed open and my father walked in. He looked worn out, must be the pack responsibility wearing him down. He walked to my mom's side and kisses her on the cheeks, "How are you doing Dearest." She sighed and leaned on him. I wonder how both of them could even get along. My mother is the aggressive and dominant party while my dad was pretty submissive but only to her. He nods at me, "You should be more excited, meeting your wolf for the first time is a magical feeling." I smiled as I try to acknowledge his words, I have been trying to act normal after the vision I had but it kept coming. There's nothing magical about it, only dreadful. Something I've never desired, my mother doesn't have a life outside pack and my father doesn't too. "Of course, I'm excited."I voiced out. "I think she's just nervous,"My mother beams out. I tilted my head to face her, she couldn't understand my feelings. Being a powerful wolf is the only important thing to my mother. "We should start going, Ray would be there waiting for us." I nodded. I should be happy that my brother would be there but I still feel empty. "I see you and that Ava girl getting close, that's good, you both will be working together to bring the pack to harmony." I bit down the words that threatened to escape my lips. I didn't want any of this, I wanted a simple life. Why can't Ray be the one to handle pack duties, he was the oldest one. We left the house to the wild, minutes has passed and it's barely over an hour to the full moon. I spot Ray in a clearing, I followed my parents to the spot. He stands and bowed in respect. My father nodded and my mother barely acknowledge his presence. I try to catch his eyes but he doesn't even give me the chance, my mind drifted to Ava, I wonder how she felt whenever he ignores her like this. I wanted to ask him what I did wrong but he didn't even give me the chance. I felt a tap on my shoulder, I turned to see my mother beside me,"Mother.."I blurted out. She lifted her gaze to the sky and sighed,"I don't want you to feel like I'm putting a lot of pressure on you but you should start thinking like a warrior." "But mom, what if this isn't what I want."The words barely landed when I felt a slap across my cheeks. She looked around and I bowed my head allowing the tears to slip out of my eyes. I felt the anger radiating off of her in waves, my palms were shaking, "You shouldn't let such words leave your lips, it's an honor to serve your pack beside your Alpha."She snapped in her angry tone. I nodded, not daring to refute her words. "The moon is coming up, get ready, don't fight the pain, embrace it and with the ray of the moon, all your abilities will be unleashed."With that she turned away from me. I bite down my words. I couldn't tell her I got two abilities already, I could control birds and see visions although I can't control them. Few other packs members were also in several spots waiting for the full moon. Ray and dad were on the other side just acting like they didn't see mother slap me. I looked across hoping to see Ava but she doesn't seem to be near at all. "Concentrate on yourself and leave others alone for now."My dad patted my shoulder gently. "It's time.."My mother growled and looked up at the moon. Almost in cue, screams fills the air with breaking of bone but yet I feel nothing. "Am I supposed to do something."I asked as more screams and breaking of bones emerge from the pack beside us. A frown takes over my father's face as he glances at my mother, "What is happening, why isn't she changing."He said, I could hear the panic in his voice. My mother turned to me and back at the moon,"She still has time, I'm sure she's a late bloomer."She assures my father. A scream comes from the nearest spot followed by a clap and a brown wolf wag it's tail before taking off into the wild. For the first time, Ray looks at me with concern in his eyes. I wanted to roll my eyes at him, I didn't want his pity. Minutes past and wolves ran into the wild but I still felt nothing out of the ordinary. "She won't change, she doesn't have a wolf."
