CHAPTER 2 DANIEL PATTERSON Family dinners are just not my thing. Grandma thinks that is one of the most important things families need to have to strengthen ties and make good relations but all I could tell from all her schemes were she was doing this because of the Patterson image she wanted to put out there.  If grandma misses my face, she should just say it and I'll come to see her than for her to be organizing such family meetings at restaurants. I decided to drive my Ferrari F60 America this evening so that right after that meaningless dinner, I head straight to Clara's place to get laid. She loved that car and I wanted to give it to her as a gift for her upcoming birthday. I've already missed her. My phone started vibrating in my pocket so I took it out. I had a look at the caller ID and saw that it was Clara. I guess she was missing me too. I decided to stop in front of a shopping mall and answer the call only to crash into something when I was parallel parking. What could that be? My heart skipped a beat at that. My Ferrari! I could feel like something had scratched my beautiful car. I almost threw my phone somewhere but I calmed down and got out of the car to go check, only to see a 1999 bicycle with no brand name on it parked there. It had now been pressed to the wall by my car and I could see my car having few scratches on it. The front of my car had turned been turned brown with the scratches.  Anger started building up in me. A bicycle with no brand name ruining my Ferrari F60 America was killing me. Who the f**k did this belong to? I went closer to examine the damage with the help of my phone screen only to see that if the bicycle is moved even an inch, my tires will deflate. I took my phone to call the police only for me to hear someone crying about a bike. I turned and saw a girl, looking at the pressed bike. "Who did this to my bike?" She cried. "So the bike with no brand name is yours?" I asked her angrily and she straightened up. "What? No brand name? Does your car have a brand name? What ugly-looking car is this one?" She frowned at my car and I gasped with disbelief. I had this Ferrari shipped to the US and she dare tells me she doesn't know what brand of car this is? This is a limited edition Ferrari! I almost yelled at her but I kept my cool. As far as I could tell, she wasn't that abreast with time so why try to explain to her what brand this was. She had her hair tied in a messy bun and she was in a simple white tee shirt and faded navy shorts. I didn't want to admire this annoying girl, but she was beautiful. The shorts failed to hide the beautiful curves she had. "Do you know the price of this car? It can buy you and I'll get change from that purchase," I bit back and I loved the look of pain on her face. She placed her things down and took in a deep breath. "I'm not going to argue with you, if this car can buy me and earn you some more cash then I guess you won't have to bother. I'm worth two dollars," She jested with a shrug and before I could stop her, she pulled the bike out, completely deflating one of my tires. "What have you done?" I yelled at her. "Oops, sorry. What again can that tire buy? My house?" She teased, getting onto her bike, taking her things, and riding off leaving me just like that. I was speechless. she had left me speechless and never in my entire two weeks in the United States had I been this insulted. What was wrong with Americans? Are all Americans like that? I was fuming but there was nothing I could do. The girl had pedaled away and now here I stood with a deflated, scratched Ferrari with no help in sight. I angrily kicked the tire and looked around. My phone vibrated again and it was my mother. "Where are you dear? We're all here?" "I'm coming, maa," I mumbled and hung up. I couldn't replace the tires, I wouldn't be done in time. There were only three solutions. One was to run there which was definitely out. Another way was to walk there and the last one was to take a cab. I didn't even remember the last time I took a cab somewhere. This is going to be so embarrassing. I went to the side of the streets and hailed a nice cab and told him to drive me to the Patterson Restaurant. I can't believe that I let that girl go away just like that. I know I shouldn't have told her my car could buy her but I couldn't help it. I wanted a great comeback and that's why I did that, but now I regret it. I got to the restaurant and paid quickly, telling him to keep the change, and headed straight inside before anyone I knew saw me. Grandma was going to throw a tantrum and I wasn't ready to explain to everyone that someone had just disrespected me in every way possible. Maa would be sad to see me like that and so I kept that to myself. I was led to our private place and I joined my family. It was my dad, my mother, my grandmother and my big sister, Amanda. "Let's order something, then," Grandmother said happily and we did. The waiter wrote down our orders and went to get them. We sat patiently and waited. "Hasn't this restaurant turned into a success? I'm proud I brought up such an idea," Grandmother said happily and I just rolled my eyes at her. We all knew the reason she built this restaurant was that our competitor owned three restaurants and Grandma wanted to beat that. Now she has about two restaurants in every state and we spend almost all evening in one different location. "Daniel, when are you getting married to Clara?" Mother asked and I frowned. "And who said I'm going to marry her?" "Daniel?" Dad called. "Dad, no. It looks like my mother wants to choose a woman for me which is a no. I will choose my own girl when the right time comes." "Want an American?" Amanda teased, her glass at her lips. Americans? With what I just encountered a few minutes ago? Not really. I think I had been gone for too long that things have really changed around here. "Whatever but Clara is a very beautiful girl. She's intelligent, rich, and well-bred." Amanda interpolated and I shot her a glare. "She can't get us, kids, have you guys forgotten?" I reminded them. "Have you guys forgotten about who was going to take over all the inheritance you are creating almost everywhere? There's got to be someone to take care of Grandma's messes, right?" "You can always get someone to produce the babies for you and you can still marry Clara. It's simple." Mother shrugged. "Why buy a layer and a broiler (chicken) when you can buy one which can perform the two tasks? No thank you." I said with a grin and everyone went silent. "That's rude, Daniel." "My apologizes." I sneered. The waiter brought our orders on a trolley and served each of us. I had ordered Chicken Tikka Masala but this one looked different. "Mark, did Sarah cook this?" I asked the waiter. Every time I come here and I want to eat Chicken Tikka Masala, it had to be prepared by chef Sarah or I won't eat. It's very easy but very complicated to prepare so if not well taken care of, it won't taste too good. It became one of my favorite meals when I traveled to India for a business trip three years ago and got served with it. When I came back, clearly smitten by the meal, I had sponsored chef Sarah to go to India to learn how to cook it so without her, I don't eat it from any other chef. "No. But manager Sam liked it, I'm sure you will too." I frowned but tried it anyway. It was delicious. I was surprised, but it was more delicious than chef Sarah's own. Mother tried it when she saw my facial expression. "Mm, impressive. Which chef prepared this?" I asked. "Told you. Actually, it wasn't a chef, it was the dishwasher," Mark chuckled and we were all confused. "A dishwasher cooked this? Can we meet this dishwasher?" I suggested happily. She or he needed a recommendation. He's done so well. This is how I really wanted my Masala even though Sarah's preparations were a little closer to this one, it was not the original taste. "Alright. I'll go get her." ______ Thanks for reading
