Chapter Five Late October, 1913 Ian sat on his bed, slumped over. The shock of his classmate’s death still gripped him. Just yesterday afternoon, he and Charlie had been walking across the quad to class, laughing and joking, when Charlie froze in his tracks, suddenly gasping for breath. He’d clutched his chest just before collapsing on the grass. In mere seconds, he’d stopped breathing. The sudden finality of Charlie’s death was deeply unsettling and Ian found himself questioning everything he’d thought his life was supposed to be.
