Mate

(Destiny) I have been moving from group home to group home and foster home to foster home since I was eight years old. For some reason I can’t remember anything before I was eight. I never had a childhood and I had to grow up fast even if I didn’t want to. It’s been ten and six months since I have been in the system. I have met people that really care about the children in the system and I have met others that don’t care at all, they just want the money and don’t care what the children do. While being away in foster care, I have ran away many times. The first time I ran away, I heard a voice in my head telling me I needed to leave. I didn’t know if I was going crazy or what, but if I was going crazy, I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I followed the voice as she said to run into the woods. When I got there, I didn’t expect what was going to happen to me. The pain was like nothing I had felt before. Not to mention the way my skin was burning; I swore it was going to fall off. But when the pain and burning was over, I had black bat like wings. Then another pain came, minus the burning. The pain was just as bad, but when it was done, my wings were no longer bat like, but like angel wings, but black. That’s when I heard two voices in my head. Sin is my demon… my succubus and Raziel is my angel. I was only ten years old when I got them. According to them, one of my parents must have been a succubus or an incubus while the other was an angel. The other times I ran away is to keep the people I live with safe. When I get angry, I want to hurt whoever is close, so I run. But after the seventh time I ran away, I learned to control my anger with Sin and Raziel’s help. They have also taught me how to keep my scent as a human. With them, I don’t feel as alone as I used to be. One more thing they have told me and the main reason why we hide our scent is because we’re the only one ever of our kind, not just half demon, half angel, but the first hybrid. Anyway, I still keep my bags packed at every group home or foster home I go to. I don’t usually last longer than a month, but here at this group home, it has been a month and a week. ‘Maybe we can settle here’ Sin said. ‘Yeah, it wouldn’t be bad. I mean you only have four months until your eighteenth birthday. Then we’re on our own’, Raziel said. ‘Fine. I will try to do things the right way, but we need to think about what we’re going to do afterward’ I said to them, walking into Science class. I go to the back table where I usually sit. Just then, an intoxicating scent of pine and forest after it rained filled my nose and I had to hold back a moan. I felt Sin and Raziel stir before pushing forward a bit. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath of the amazing scent that was getting stronger by the second. ‘Relax, my eyes can’t glow here’ I reminded them. Just then the doors to the classroom opened, three males came in. Two are identical twins, but my eyes went straight to the tall one. He must be six feet seven inches, broad shoulders, the perfect amount of muscles, full lips, sharp jaw, and emerald green eyes. ‘Mate’, Sin and Raziel said in unison. The guy stops at the door as he looks at me. “Destiny”, I hear Mr. Roberts called, snapping me out of my staring contest. “Raise your hands so Malik, Andy, and Randy know where to sit”, I nodded and raised my hand. The three males took the table next to me. I could tell all three of them were werewolves. After all, this is a werewolf school. There are hardly any humans here. The bell rang, letting everyone know that it was time to start class. The teacher was talking while I took notes. Mr. Roberts began to pass out our assignments. “If you guys don’t understand something, you may ask Destiny for help”, Mr. Roberts said. I could hear the females in the classroom begin to protest. “Are you sure about that, Mr. Roberts? I mean Destiny hardly talks unless it's to the orphans”, Bayley said. Bayley is the slut of the school and the captain of the cheerleading squad. “Yeah, she’s probably as stupid as the other orphans. Maybe you should have those three hotties with us” Candice said, before waving at my mate and the twins. Anger began to bubble up inside me. It didn’t help that Sin and Raziel were angry as well. “Just because I don’t run my mouth like you two do, doesn’t mean I’m stupid” I said as I scribbled ‘Don’t hurt them’ in my notebook. “Excuse me? What did you just say b***h?” Bayley said, standing up. “Ladies please” Mr. Roberts said. I could feel my mate looking at me. I stood up to my full height and looked at Bayley in the eyes. She’s also a werewolf and I knew that by looking at her in the eyes she would take it as a challenge, but she would also know I'm not afraid of her. “I didn’t stutter. I know you heard me loud and clear. And for your information, just because I’m an orphan and I live in a group home doesn’t mean I’m stupid. I have a four point six great point average while you’re barely keeping your head above water with a two point seven just so you can stay as captain of the cheerleading squad. Maybe you should take a step back from cheering and learn something. Also, do you even know what the meaning of a ‘b***h’ is? It’s a female dog, wolf, fox, or otter. It also means to express displeasure; to grumble. Last time I checked, I’m not a dog, wolf, fox, or otter. So, who’s the b***h now?” I asked. There was a low growl and Bayley pulled her hand back to slap me, but my mate caught her hand. “You should show a better example as the captain of the cheerleading squad” my mate said. They looked at each other for a couple of seconds before Bayley tilted her head in submission and went back to her seat. My mate looked at me and winked at me, which made me blush. Class continued like nothing happened. My mate, Malik, asked me a few questions here and there, but I had a feeling he already knew the answers. It was like he was just trying to spike some conversation. The bell rang and I was ready for lunch. I grabbed my stuff and went to walk out of the classroom when a hand grabbed my wrist. Sparks shot up my arm, making me gasp. I looked at my mate to see him looking at where he had grabbed me. “Um… I was wondering if I could have your number in case I have any problems with the assignment” he said. He knew damn well he had no problems, but I still grabbed his notebook and wrote the group home’s number down. “I live in a group home, so you will have to ask for me” I told him. “You don’t have a cell phone?” he asked. “I wish. I can’t afford it” I said, before handing him his notebook back. I gave him a smile before walking out of the classroom towards the cafeteria.
