THE chef’s assistant almost jumped to his feet when the oven’s door was pushed close harder than intended. It was followed by the clashing of the pans nearby. He and Chef Gustave looked at each other before they went back to doing their job. Orders were coming. Whenever there is a staff that grabbed the orders, he or she will glance at the woman working at the table. No one said a word but each had curiosity in their eyes.
