Chapter One-2

322 Words
ENRIQUE WATCHED SARAH Louis walk away, then collapsed into his chair with a thump. What had just happened? Every other applicant had been far too happy to tell him how honest and hardworking they were. They often had un–ironed clothes and badly groomed hair. They had not impressed him with their declarations of self-worth. Instead, Sarah refused to list off her qualities, knowing that her attitude and appearance spoke for itself. She was impeccably groomed. Blonde hair that had been brushed to glisten. Even in the strange light of his office, it was the color of sunshine. Her hair was so long it reached halfway down her back, but she had clipped it back to keep it from falling in front of her beautiful face. Her eyes were a dark blue, fringed with long eyelashes. She had worn mascara, lip gloss on her full pink lips, and nothing on her skin that disguised the freckles that covered her flawless, creamy complexion. A knitted, pale blue twin set and a pair of black pants made her look young and professional, yet traditional and a little conventional. Which he liked. Especially as a role model for his niece. Her appearance spoke volumes more than she could ever have said herself. She was a woman with confidence in her abilities. She didn’t need brand name clothing and three inches of makeup to accentuate that. She was perhaps a bit bigger than his tastes ran to, but she was perfectly proportional. Enrique found himself wondering if this was how she would always dress while working. Did she always cover herself up as was fitting for her position? Did she have a boyfriend? Enrique stilled when he registered his last thought. Why was he even wondering about that? He'd had a very long day; perhaps it was the tiredness getting to him. He was practically hallucinating! Lusting after what his father would call 'the help.' He shook his head and got back to work.
