Alpha Tristan's POV
I rested my gaze on the glass of wine I held. The side of my lips curved up, remembering Vivienne. Her scent was something I had gotten used to. One, because she was always in the pack house thanks to my son, and two, because my wolf could never stop noting that scent. When she walked into my room that night, I knew. When her scent became stronger, I knew she was getting closer and closer to me. When she took position on my bed, I knew. And then her lips came on mine.
I have always wanted that. I wanted to touch her, hold her, feel her. Not just her lips but every part of her, but she was too far from me. She was my son's mate. I could not touch her. I could not disrespect her in such a manner, but then she came to me. She wanted me, and I was excited for a moment. Even though I knew I should not have gone ahead with what she wanted, I could not stop her.
Her persistence was too much, and my wolf enjoyed her scent. No matter how many times I told myself to stop, it only made it worse. She said once. I took a sip of my wine. Was that even possible? I wanted to mark her. I wanted her to be mine. Once was not going to make that happen, would it? And then when she ran away in the morning. She thought I was asleep, but I was not.
I watched every move. I listened to every hiss that came out of mouth and her heartbeat that continued speeding up with each second. Her scent was all over my room and heck, I did not want it out of there. I wanted it to remain. A part of me wanted to stop her, but I could sense she was scared. I didn't want to make her scared. But one thing marvels me.
A knock distracted my thoughts, and my Beta emerged. He bowed.
“Miss Vivienne just arrived, Alpha.” he informed me.
I gestured for her to be let in. I could smell her. I was tempted to rest my eyes on the door, but I shook my head at that. I took another sip of wine, and she stepped in, with my Beta behind her. He bowed and stepped to the side. Vivienne curtsied and remained closer to the door. Her heart was beating fast.
“Good day, Alpha.” she greeted, barely able to hide her fear
“For someone who was bold not too long ago, it's strange seeing you scared.” I pointed out. This was what marvelled me. She was bold, not minding who she was speaking to. She kept going, but when the morning came, she was frightened, like she had seen a ghost. Even now. Her eyes widened, and she stylishly took her eyes to my Beta.
With my index and middle finger, I gestured for her to come closer to me. She swallowed before taking the first step.
“Sit,” I instructed.
She glanced at the chair behind her, then at my Beta with me last before she took a seat at the edge of the chair.
“You sit like you want to run away.” I teased.
She was still tense, so I gestured for my Beta to excuse us. Her eyes followed him until he was out of my private chamber. I stood up, which made her heart skip a beat. She tried to stand.
“Remain seated.” I commanded. “Why are you scared now? You weren't scared of me that last night.” I said.
She looked away before replying. “I was drunk.” then she returned her gaze to me. “I apologize, Alpha.” she bowed her head. “I was too drunk to think, and I passed my boundaries. I don't plan on telling anyone about it and do not plan to bother you either.” she said, which amused me.
I walked over to my mini bar.
“Care for some wine?” I asked, ignoring her words.
She opened her mouth but closed it the next minute. I waited, eyes on her.
“I will pass, Alpha.” she said.
"Why reject it?” I asked, filling my glass and another. “After all, it'll help you be bold.” I teased, walking over to her.
I handed over the glass to her, which she reluctantly took, muttering a thank you. I took my seat and the amusement in my voice earlier disappeared.
“I won't kill you if that's what you think.” I told her.
She looked at me as though she did not believe me.
“But you…” she paused.
“I didn't kill her because she tried to seduce me. I did it because she tried to poison me.” I took a sip of my wine.
“But that's not what the rumour said.” she paused, biting her tongue.
“Go on.” I urged her.
“Why didn't you clarify?” she asked.
I stared at her for some time, then shrugged. “I didn't think it was necessary. After all, it got people to stay away from me except you ignored that rumour.”
She looked down at her glass and emptied it the next minute, which I found amusing. She turned pale almost immediately, and I frowned, getting up. Her heartbeat sped up as I approached, and her eyes followed my every move. I took a seat beside her, and she tried to stand, but I held her back.
“Don't,” I said.
“You're pale.” I said, my eyes scanning her face before taking my hands there. “And burning up too.” I added, my thumb caressing the side of her lips. “Are you okay?” I locked eyes with her.
She nodded, and I raised my brow before she tried to look away, but I held her chin, pulling her face back to look at me.
“You're lying to me.” I was offended.
“I have not been feeling well, but it's okay. I'm fine. I just need to take some drugs.” she said, but I didn't believe her. There was a scent I was getting.
“I'll call a doctor to check on you.” I told her, but she was quick to stand.
"No, I don't.” she said.
“Why? Are you scared of doctors?” I asked. I sighed when she gave me no answer. “You are turning paler, Vivienne.” I stood up, taking her hand. “It won't take long unless you know what's wrong with you.” I said.
“I don't know.” she said.
“Then let a doctor come.” I said.
She was reluctant, but she eventually nodded. I mind linked my Beta to get the doctor and in a couple of minutes; she was in my chamber checking on her. The doctor paused halfway through and stared at me. With my eyes, I asked what the problem was, and she took her eyes to my hands, which I had intertwined with Vivienne's. Reluctantly, I let go of her hand.
“When did it start?” the doctor asked
“Um… A week ago.” she replied.
The doctor turned to me, then sighed. “She is preg-”
“Father,” Scott walked into the room.
