Chapter 16: After Math

2631 Words
Sin’s POV      “Hold on Xander, stay with me.” He was lying lifeless beneath me.      I could hear an evil laugh coming from the distance and knew I was for sure next, but I had to try and save Xander, I didn't have time to worry about myself. What was he doing here anyway? I had those wolves under control, I didn’t even know they were surrounding me until the first one jumped. “Hold on.” I pulled the arrow out and tore my t-shirt off to apply pressure to keep him from bleeding out. I could still hear his heart beating so I knew he was fighting. “Jake, where are you, I need you now!” I screamed. “Xander hold on.”      “Your blood child, your blood will heal him and stop the poison from spreading.” That voice, where did it come from, I looked around stunned and couldn’t see anyone. “Stop looking for me and use your blood now.” There was something soothing and calm about the voice speaking to me.      I felt around till I found a rock laying on the ground and sliced my palm as deep as I could, I tried to go with the same slice from the dagger earlier, but much to my surprise it was already healed with a slight scar left behind. I couldn’t let myself think anymore about it in that moment.      I placed my bleeding palm to the open wound from the arrow and I immediately felt a warm tingling sensation run through my body, as my blood mixed with his. Once the tingling sensation eased I removed my palm, the bleeding had stopped and the wound looked like it was trying to heal.      “Now child you must go find the person responsible for this.” I looked around and could still hear that cynical laugh in the distance, I didn't think that voice was coming from who ever was laughing, the laugh was evil where the voice calming and almost angelic.         “Sin are you okay,” Jake came at a run from the distance and slid down beside Xander.       “Jake I'm fine. The wolves came from nowhere, I didn’t have time to holler for help before they started attacking. Xander showed up to help and we beat them and just as we were headed back to find you guys, someone shot him with an arrow. I think it was poisoned. He has been unconscious since.” I moved my hand to show Jake the hole where the arrow was, much to my surprise it was already looking better. “Jake, I have to go. Please get him help, I will be back.” With that I jumped and ran toward the sound of the evil laugh without listening to Jake’s pleas for me to stop. I knew he wouldn’t follow me with Xander laying there unconscious.        I had probably run a three hundred feet with the laugh becoming louder and then stopped. I stood listening to my surroundings not relying on my eyesight until I heard footsteps to my right. “Well, well, you are just a child.” The voice ran chills down my spine, it was laced with evil venom and deep, like a man’s, definitely not the angelic voice I had heard when I was with Xander. Whoever it was turned to face me and all I could see was blood red orbs staring at me, even with the moonlight, I couldn't see anything else.       “Who are you? And what do you want with these people here? We are all kids.” I demanded.      “Brave too I see. Well, who I am is irrelevant at this moment,” He taunted, and I could tell he was pacing by the sounds of his footsteps, “See you have been hidden from us for eleven years and your aura shall we say is cloaked, or well was cloaked, but tonight we felt it, the surge was undeniable?” He laughed, and it wasn’t a funny laugh.       “What on earth are you talking about you lunatic. You almost killed my friend.” I growled back, becoming impatient with the crazed, red eyed demon.      “Yes, yes, I know. But you see I needed to see if you were who I thought you were. Your father thought he was smart when he ran with you all those years ago and made everyone think you were actually dead.” He stopped pacing before glaring those demonic looking eyes back at me and stepping a few feet closer. “But I will not bother you anymore today. It isn’t your time yet, but keep in mind I will be back for you when the time is right. So, princess don’t get too comfortable here.” I felt something hit my foot and when I looked down there laid an arrow, he had thrown one at my feet, but not to hit me, just for me to pick up, I guess. I bent over to pick it up and when I raised back up, he was gone. I didn’t even hear his footsteps as he left.       “Sin are you alright,” Mr. and Mrs. Russell were jogging to me.      “I am fine, how is Xander?”      “He will be fine. What happened here?” Mr. Russell replied as I stood there for a few minutes quietly trying to decide if I should tell them.        “Not here Mr. and Mrs. Russell, can we please go inside, and I will tell you everything.” I finally decided to just go with it, I mean how much crazier could it sound than the things I had personally been subjected to.       “Sin we can do that, but please call us Luca and Carol. I think you have earned the right to lose the formalities.” I wasn’t sure how to feel about Mr. Russell's declaration, but I nodded my head and followed them back to the facility.       As we passed the spot where Xander had been laying I couldn’t help but notice the large fire that was burning and the warrior club members throwing the dead wolves into the middle of it. I reached down and picked the arrow up that was still laying where I had left it next to Xander and I placed it in my other hand with the arrow the creepy man had thrown at my feet.       We entered the building and I noticed that there was no one in sight, I couldn’t even hear the party outside. “It’s okay Sin, we sent everyone to their rooms when we went out to investigate what was going on. We figured it would be safer that way.” Luca placed his hand on my back and led me toward his office.       “Before we go to your office, I want to see Xander, please.” I needed to make sure he was okay. He was hurt because of me anyway, and something was telling me to go.       “Very well then. He is in the infirmary. As soon as you are done there, please come back to my office.” Luca pointed down the hallway. I nodded my head and took off at a dead run toward the infirmary.       “What the hell are you doing here?” Jess sneered as I walked through the door of the infirmary.      “Not that I owe you an explanation, but I came to make sure he was okay.” I walked toward the curtain where I was certain he was laying.      “Over my dead body,” she screamed as she pushed me back against a cabinet.      I calmly laid the arrows down and steadied myself. I wasn’t really wanting to fight her, but I guess I had no other choice. She raised her hand to slap me and a hand caught it. I looked to see Jake holding it with a smile on his face.      “What are you doing? She got him killed.” Jess spit at him.      “It is time for you to go to your room, now. And that is your leader standing there, you know what striking her will get you. Now go.” He pulled her arm behind her back twisting her toward the door and shoving her out. He turned to look at me and I mouthed a thank you as they exited.       I walked to the curtain and pulled it back, shew he is still breathing, I thought to myself as I sighed in relief.      I took a seat next to his bed and took his hand in mine. I tried to ignore the small tingles that was running through the touch of our skin, it was like someone put a hot wire full of electricity to my skin and turned it on low voltage, but the longer I held it, the stronger the tingles felt.      “I don’t know if you can hear me, but I am truly sorry about this. I would never cause any harm to anyone purposefully." I took a deep breath, maybe I can practice telling what happened to him, if I can admit it to him, even though he was unconscious, it might be easier to tell Luca and Carol. I coaxed myself a little more before I made my mind up to go with it, "And much to my surprise they were here for me. You were just collateral damage. I am so sorry Xander. I promise that I will stay clear from everyone after this. None of you deserve to be hurt because of me.”       Feeling a weight lifted off my shoulders, I sat there silently and listened to the machines and his breathing. His heart was beating strong and he seemed to be sleeping peacefully, but I knew something was going on in that brain of his, and I couldn't stay any longer.      “Okay I am going to go now, and I promise I won’t be back, I just wanted to say I was sorry, and make sure you were okay.” I stood to walk away and just as I started to let go, I felt him squeeze my hand. I looked down to see him staring at me.      “Where are you going?” His voice was scratchy.      “Welcome back to the living.” I gave him a smile and tried to release his hand to leave again and he once again squeezed it harder.      “Don’t go. I am sorry I was wrong about you. And you don’t owe me an apology.” I giggled, he kind of sounded like a croaking frog trying to talk. “And please don’t stay away.”      “You were listening,” I gave him a smirk, no way was he listening to everything.      “I was.” He smiled back and for the first time I didn’t see someone who hated me, I saw someone who was looking at me for me. His eyes slowly traveled down my face before he opened his mouth, “Sin you are hurt.” I looked down and sure enough my clothes were torn and there were scratches everywhere, but none of it hurt they were just barely scratches.      “I am fine, just a few scratches.” I bent down and pecked him on the forehead causing him to let loose of my hand from the surprise of my gesture. “Rest now, I have to go.” And I turned to leave quickly, grabbing my arrows on my way out.I knew when I stepped out of that room, I needed to keep to my word, I couldn't make anymore friends, I couldn't be the cause of anyone else being injured because of me.       Entering the office with a smile on my face I was greeted by Luca and Carol. “Please sit and let me see those.” Luca motioned for me to hand him the arrows.       “Oh, that one is the one that Xander was shot with. I have a feeling the poison is not all out of his system so I grabbed it so maybe you could figure out what they used and find him an antidote.” I took a seat, while rambling about the arrows.        “Yea about that, by the time we found him the wound was already almost completely healed. Can you explain that Sin?” Luca asked as he examined the arrows.       I sat there silent for what seemed like hours contemplating everything that had happened and whether I could trust to tell them. “Tell them child, trust me, you can trust them with everything. They are friends.” That voice rang out again.       Now there is no one in the room but me, Carol, and Luca so I knew it had to be in my head. I fought with my head voice for a few minutes until I figured I would listen to it and tell them everything. I explained the fight and what happened with all the wolves, and then how Xander came to help. The arrow, how I had run into the man when I left Xander's side, and all that he told me and then how he just disappeared.      “Okay Sin, but how did Xander’s poisoned wound heal so fast?” Carol questioned.      “Well, a voice in my head told me my blood would help.” I let the breath out I didn’t know I was holding.       “Interesting.” Luca said and we all sat quietly. “Sin when do you start Chemistry?”      I laughed, and then when I was ready to answer his question I laughed some more. “Seriously, all this happened in one night and the only thing you ask is when I start Chemistry.” I laughed some more and then realized they were looking at me with their most serious looks and I was the only one laughing. I cleared my throat, “A week from Monday, they said that they had to wait for some to transfer out before I could start.”       “Well get ready, you start Monday. I will make a call to the office. Now why don’t you go get some rest.” Leaving me completely flabbergasted Luca escorted me out of his office and turned me to the stairs to head to my room.        I made the trip to my room but couldn’t help the things running through my mind. Xander, he went from cold and mean, to nice in a split second. Jake stepped down to give me second in command. I fought wolves that Xander called rogues. Xander was shot with a poisonous arrow, the creepy man threatening me, and then Luca worried about Chemistry.      Seriously could the day get anymore weirder. Thank goodness that Claire was asleep when I got to my room. I quietly made my way to the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror while I undressed. My cheek was sliced open with dried blood that oozed down my jawline, my arms, shoulders, and stomach had gashes everywhere and dried blood. My legs weren’t much better. Taking my clothes, I just threw them in the trash, they were all shredded anyway. Much to my surprise as I washed all the blood away everything was just scratches, not deep gashes like I previously thought.         After cleaning myself up and laying down on my soft mattress, I couldn't help the manic giggle that escaped my lips. It was then I decided when I woke up, this would have all been a crazy dream, that I would definitely have to write a book about one day.
