Chapter 5: Xander's Side

2458 Words
Xander’s POV        “Dad why do you keep bringing these delinquents here?” I complained while standing in my dad’s office arguing about the new recruits. Over the years sure some of them had became useful but most of them ended up no more than mere servants in our homeland if they decided to stay with us. I also knew that dad did it to keep up appearance to the outside world.      “Xander, son, I have told you we will continue to do this. We are making a difference here and we must continue, some of these kids never get another chance until they come here. Plus, we have about two hundred transferring out to other facilities where their skill set will be of more use to those places then ours. They will be leaving in about two weeks.” I collapsed on the chair in front of dad’s desk and ran my hands up and down across my face like a toddler fighting sleep.        “What we are looking for will never come this way and you know it. Jess is with me and that’s all we need.” I was trying to reason with him. He still thought that I will find the next female leader with these girls coming in, but I knew I would never need anyone other than my Jess, she was sexy as hell, with her perfect hourglass figure, that platinum blonde hair and those baby blue eyes. Who could not love all that? Not including the things she could do to please me, I smiled inwardly at the nasty thoughts crossing my mind.        “Jess will never be that person. One day the one we are looking for is going to come in on one of those buses and you will eat your words.” He smiled at me and then turned to look out the window. “Speaking of, here comes the bus now. Why don’t you stand here and watch while I go greet them,” I rolled my eyes but knew he was serious, so I pulled my chair to the window to watch while he exited the office.        The bus pulled up and everyone piled out. There were twenty-five of them, they all looked extremely young. I couldn’t help but notice how they all stood humbled with their heads hung low except one. She stood at attention like a soldier with her shoulders back and her chin held high.         Intriguing, I thought to myself. Probably just another brat that daddy didn’t want to deal with, so he sent her here to be lined out. I chuckled inwardly at myself thinking about how she was fixing to be put in line and forced to submit to this place.          Like clock work the wolves came around the corner and stalked toward the group of young girls like predators fixing to take down their prey. I silently admitted to myself, this was one of my favorite things about intake. The girls knelt and laid to the ground in sign of submission one by one, until the wolves came to the last one still standing proud.        The black wolf growled at her and she never even flinched and then much to my surprise, she turned her eyes to the wolf and seemed to be challenging him, she wasn’t backing down at all. That got me standing with my face glued to the window like a bug on the windshield. I watched the wolf scratch her and draw blood and again she didn’t flinch. As the wolf raised its paw again, I gasped as she grabbed it and flipped it and the next thing I knew, she was on top battling it.        "What the hell?" I shouted to myself.        The next thing I knew she was jumping off and standing back in front of it, but much to my surprise again she still didn’t submit, she was still challenging. I just shook my head in disbelief, not once in my whole sixteen years had I ever seen anything like this, some of the toughest men I had ever met always submitted, but not this kid.        She didn’t look to be any older than thirteen or fourteen. Her hair was pulled back in a messy bun and a dirty blonde color. She was dressed in a grey jogging suit and looked quite small especially standing next to the wolf. Soon my mother my mother approached the group and the wolves slightly backed down and relaxed, but the girl did not. Mom motioned for the girls to follow and the leader put herself between the girls and the wolves, like she was protecting the group.        "I need to get out of here now, I am not believing my eyes, and I will make that girl submit if it is the last thing I do." I told myself as I started out of the office and back toward the main hallway when I heard my father clear his throat.        “Well dad that was embarrassing.” I smirked at him. “But don’t worry I will make her submit.” I turned and started away when I felt his hand pull me back to face him.        “I don’t know what you saw, but what I saw was nothing, but raw power hidden beneath. We need to know more. I have been on this earth far too long, and not once in my life have, I ever seen that. Nor has anyone else and trust me I have heard the stories. I am going to make some calls but listen carefully. You leave that girl alone.” And with that he turned and headed back to his office.       Stupid man, he doesn’t even know what he is talking about, but I will make it happen, I grinned inwardly at my thoughts. From now on my main purpose is to make a young girl submit, she is nothing, and will learn she is nothing when I am done with her. Smirking to myself I made my way to my room where I knew Jess would be soon.       “Jake man, we need to take this girl down, you seen what she done. A complete mockery of me.” I punched the bag.        Not long after I had retired to my room and spent my time with Jess, we went to the dinner hall. Jess didn’t join us she had cheer practice, so it was just me and the boys at our table, and that little witch made a complete mockery of me in front of everyone. To say I was livid would not even be close to how mad I was.       “Xan man I think it is kind of hot. We have never had a girl around here that could keep up and make us all just bow down to the opposite sex.” Jake responded back punching the bag.       “I will bow down to no one. I don’t even bow down to my father and I sure don't bow down to Jess. So why in the world do you think I would her?” I hauled off this time and did a round house kick to the punching bag.      “Xander I love you like a brother, and I understand why your father had us move here and go through this before we go home to take over. But I think this girl, I think your sister said her name was Sin, would be an asset, there is something I can’t quite put my finger on. You are looking at this all wrong and not seeing the upside. All you are thinking about is your father wanting to replace Jess by your side. And honestly, he’s right, maybe not with Sin, but right nevertheless, Jess is not the one to help you run the family business and you know it.”        I hauled off and punched him, no one talks about Jess like that. “This girl hasn’t even been here twenty-four hours and she is already making our life crazy.”       “Xander why are you letting her get to you? Like you said she hasn’t been here a full day, and it isn’t like we don’t see new recruits on a weekly basis.” Jake sighed, wiping the blood from the corner of his lip where I had just punched him. “But like I said there is something about this one.”        I plopped my butt down on the ground and just put my hands on my knees grabbing each side of my head. “Jake you didn’t see her. She was absolutely amazing and fearless. To say I was intrigued would be an understatement. Not only did she not back down she attacked and was winning. I don’t know what her story is, but I have a feeling it isn’t a good one, and I can’t bring that into our pack, no matter how intrigued.”       Jake plopped down beside me, “Xan man, I think you are over thinking this.”       “You have no idea.” I finally admitted.        We sat there in silence before getting up and heading to our wing, to retire for the night.           Not being able to sleep I watched as the clock slowly counted down each minute until it was five am and I couldn’t lay there any longer. I got up and changed into my training clothes and quickly rushed out to take the stairs and head down. As I came close to the stairs, I could hear light footsteps pounding on the steps, I moved to the shadows so I would not be seen and stood there and watched.        There she was, Sin, she had on a pair of leggings and tennis shoes, her hair was in a messy bun and she had on a white tank top with her black sports bra lining the edges. She was completely in her own little world. I saw how her body had a little perspiration coming to the surface, but she wasn’t out of breath and her heart wasn’t beating out of her chest.        I stood there and counted, after her fifteenth time she stopped at the top and stretched. I couldn’t help but notice the scars that peaked out from underneath her shirt as it rode up while she stretched. On her left arm was a nasty looking scar that was still purple in color like the ones on her back telling me they weren’t very old, to be so young, she looked like she had been to hell, and not only did she win, she was already proving to be resilient.        I was so lost in thinking about the hell she must have been through I almost missed when she got done stretching and headed toward me, I ducked even further back into the shadows as she walked by, hoping she didn't see me.       “You know you don’t have to hide in the shadows, I would have let you pass.” She said as I stood there with my mouth open, she never even turned my direction as she walked on down the hallway, never saying another word, her breath was even and calm and just like that she disappeared into the darkness.            Making my way out to the training yard, still reeling over the new mystery girl and her story my dad hollered at me and motioned me to follow him to his office. Once we entered, he shut the door behind him and took a seat behind the desk. “Xander I heard about your little display in the dining hall yesterday evening and I am here to tell you do not provoke the new girl.” He glared at me, which in return pissed me off.       “Don’t tell me what to do old man. She is nothing but a disrespectful brat and she will submit and know her place.”       Dad rubbed his temples and sat back in his chair before opening his mouth to speak, “Alright son, let’s make a deal. I have a feeling that she will be coming to us about joining warrior training club.”       I huffed at that, a girl no way, I screamed in my head.       He shook his head at me, “When she does, we are going to let her, but only if she can pass the test. If she puts up a strong fight and shows the skill set, we look for in a new trainee then you will treat her as an equal and befriend her. Trust me, we will need her.” He leaned forward with his elbows on the desk.       I sat silent for a second and mauled it over in my head, and then like a light bulb going off in my head, no I know what I will do, first I will make her take on one of the strongest girls, then Jake and if she can take them both on then me. If she passes that test, then I will gladly befriend her. What dad doesn’t know is I have been training Jess and she has become strong. This is my chance to show dad what Jess’ made of, I let the thoughts continue to run through my mind as I looked up at dad. “Deal dad. But if you want this to happen then we do it my way. So, when do you think this will all happen?” Now that I had some what of a plan, I needed it to happen sooner rather than later.       “That’s fine son, I already know you are going to make her put on a show. Next Saturday, we will have tryouts. If she comes to me or you then we will accept and let her know what the terms are for her to join.” He held his hand out to shake. After mauling it over a minute more I shook back and he announced, “Deal.”        I stood to walk out the door before it crossed my mind and caused me to turn and ask one more question, “What makes you so sure she will want to join the boys only club anyway? And what is her story? You seem awful partial to this girl.”       “It is only boys because there have been no females that could make the cut, and let’s just say she has been trained well.” Hearing the finality in his words I turned to leave, thinking about my father’s words, I couldn't help but wonder who had trained her, why my father was all of a sudden on her side, and how good could she possibly be.
