I spent the rest of the day cleaning the packhouse for Felix’s birthday party. I was shocked by what happened earlier when I discovered he was my mate, only to be rejected. I found it odd that he still wanted me. I also found it strange that I even had a mate. How does a fox have a wolf mate? That has to disrupt some cosmic order.

It was getting closer to party time, so Alice gave Judy and me a break. The two of us sat at a small table in the kitchen eating tacos. I have never had a taco in my life. I had made plenty of them. I was just never allowed to eat them. These were pulled pork tacos, and I was devouring them too fast. Judy stared at me as I ate and then burped. “I’m so sorry,” I mumbled to her as sauce dripped down my chin.

“Did they never feed you?” Judy asked with an air of sadness.

“I usually only ate at school. If I ate at home, it was barely once a day unless I was being punished, then I would go three or four days without food,” I told her.

She frowned. “I always thought Jean was nicer than that. She is always nice to us. Same with Gamma Dieter.”

I sighed, “I guess I am just not worthy of kindness.”

Moments later, Luna Kendra walked into the kitchen. The Luna smiled kindly at Judy and then saw me, and her lovely face morphed into anger, “What are you doing?” She stomped over to me. “There is work to do.”

I looked up at the Luna. “I-I’m sorry, Luna.”

She slapped me across the face. “Did I say you could look at me?”

I looked at the ground. “I’m sorry.”

“Get off your lazy ass and get back to work. Jean didn’t tell me just how worthless you really are,” She snarled and stormed out of the kitchen.

Tears welled up in my eyes as I got to my feet. Judy had a horrified look on her face. “You probably shouldn’t be my friend,” I told her. “I am just not worth it.” I slinked past her to look for Alice.

I found the older omega directing my friend Buddy and a few others in the dining room. She smiled softly at me. “Did you need something?”

“I need to get my lazy ass back to work,” I say to her.

Alice frowns at me. “You are on break.”

“Luna says I need to get my lazy ass back to work,” I repeat.

“She really said that to you?”

I nod. “I am trash.”

Alice pulled me into a hug. “I don’t get why they are so cruel to you. Alpha Dean and Luna Kendra are kind to the omegas.”

“I am trash, though,” I repeated. “Tell me to do something, please. I don’t want to get whipped.”

Alice slid a strand of my hair behind an ear. “You poor child.”

I hated having her pity me. “I’ll do anything.”

She sighed and pointed to where Lydia was setting silverware on the tables. “Help Lydia.”

I nodded and walked over to my best friend’s mother. She looked up and smiled, but it faded. “What happened?”

“Alice sent me over to help you,” I tell her.

Lydia took a deep breath and handed me the silverware tray. “Start on the other tables.”

I did as I was told and set them up how Lydia showed me. She walked over to Alice. I could hear their Darcy pity party, and it pissed me off. I finished with the silver and helped Lydia set the tables with wine glasses and other things.

I then helped in the kitchen, getting the finishing touch on the food. About that time, the guests from other packs began to arrive. For some reason, Kaya became restless. She was pacing and whining. I found it annoying and tried to ignore her. While putting bread on the tables, I saw Felix walk into the dining room with Brandy on his arm.

My cousin was dressed in a black dress to accentuate her red hair. She saw me looking and gave me a smirk like she knew Felix had rejected me. Sighing, I went back to work, trying to ignore their stares. I felt Felix’s eyes boring holes into my back.

‘Things are about to get better,’ Kaya whispered.

“Felix, you are needed in the foyer,” Alpha Dean said to his son. They all walked out, and I went back to the kitchen.

Things became hectic as the party drew closer and more guests arrived. Alphas and Lunas were coming from packs all over. I heard Luna Kendra talking to Beta Lyle’s mate Hanna. She was excited to show off her decorations to the other Lunas. Of course, the omegas had done all of the actual decorating.

An hour later, I had changed into nicer clothes and had my hair in a ponytail. I was given a tray of wine and told to serve it. I walked around the well-dressed ranked wolves. Most were gracious and thanked me for the wine. Some even stuck dollar bills on the tray, which I was scared to accept.

I neared Alpha Dean, and he was talking to what I assumed was another Alpha.

“Alpha Brody, I am so glad you finally made it,” Alpha Dean said.

The other alpha was very handsome with medium-length sandy blonde hair and hazel eyes. I caught myself smiling at him. He returned the smile, which made Alpha Dean angry.

“What are you doing, girl? Serve the wine. Don’t ogle mated men.” He snarled, and the other alpha frowned.

“No need to yell at the girl, Dean.” Alpha Brody said softly.

“That one is nothing but trouble, James,” Alpha Dean said to him

I looked at the ground and moved away from them. The scent of creosote filled my senses. We had creosote bushes growing all over the territory, but I smelled it in the house. I looked around for the source as Kaya became active in my head. She paced and tried getting me to abandon my work and search for the scent. I ignored her and tried my best to concentrate. I bumped into a beautiful woman with dark brown hair and icy blue eyes.

“I-I am so sorry, ma’am,” I stuttered out.

“You clumsy oaf,” Luna Kendra came over. “I am sorry about this one, Luna Katherine.”

“No, harm was done, Luna,” The other Luna said.

“Get back to work,” Luna Kendra said with a harsh stare.

I carried the tray back to the kitchen and set it on the counter. I held onto the counter as my head was swirling. “Are you alright, Darcy?” Buddy said from behind me.

I shook my head. “I-I don’t know. I feel weird.”

“Maybe you should take a break,” Alice said. “You have been working non-stop all day.”

“I am lazy trash,” I tell her.

Alice growls lowly, grabs my arm, and pulls me from the kitchen. “Go take a break either in your room or outside. I don’t want to see you for twenty minutes,” She ordered me. “That’s an order.”

I sighed heavily as she released my arm. I should be grateful to her for actually caring, but I was still reluctant to trust her. I started walking down the hall towards my room when I am slammed against the wall. I yelped as pain radiated through my body. I looked into Felix’s brown eyes as he roughly kissed me. I felt repulsed and tried to push him away.

He slapped me hard across my face. “I told you that you are my dirty little secret,” He kissed me again and grabbed my hands so I couldn’t struggle. “Damn, you smell so good.” He dragged me down the hall and shoved me into a dark room. From the smell, I guess it was a cleaning closet. Despite the darkness, I could see the lustful look on his face. I knew what was about to come. He shoved me against a wall and began to kiss up and down my neck while his hand groped my breasts. I tried pushing him away.

“Stop,” I said meekly.

Felix laughed. “You are mine, Darcy. I may have rejected you as my Luna, but you are still mine. The Goddess said so. So take it like a good girl.” He pressed himself against me, and I could feel how hard he was getting. “Rub me.” He forced me to touch him. “You want that in you, don’t you?”

“No,” I groaned as he forced me to touch him. He unbuckled his pants with his other hand. He pushed my hand into his pants to touch his growing erection. I felt sick to my stomach. ‘Kaya, I don’t want to do this,’ I called to her.

‘Hold tight, baby girl,’ She replied.

Felix lifted my shirt and unhooked my bra. I was still struggling to get him off of me. “Stop struggling and take it.” He snarls while nipping my ear. He roughly gropes my breasts and forces me to stroke his c**k again.

I moan in disgust as he dry humps against me. He rubs his hand down my body to the top of my pants, and I try pushing him away. “No,” I protest.

“You want me, Darcy. Quit pretending that you don’t” He snickers and plunges his hands into my pants. He begins to touch me, and instead of pleasure, I feel pain. Tears roll down my cheeks as he becomes rougher. “Come on, baby.”

‘Let me have control, Darcy,’ Kaya tells me.

‘What?’ I cry out to her.

‘Give me control,’ She says again, so I yield myself to her. ‘That a girl.’ I watch as Felix suddenly freezes.

“What the hell is wrong with your eyes?” He asks.

I feel a surge of power, and then the lights in the room come on and start to spark. ‘What are you doing Kaya?’ I ask my fox.

She ignores me as she uses a new strength to shove a shocked Felix away. He is thrown away from me into a shelf of cleaning supplies.

“I knew you were some kind of freak,” Felix sneers and tries to charge us.

Kaya lets out a strange laugh and raises my arms. “You will never touch us again,” She tells Felix, and I watch as lightning shoots from her hands and strike Felix. He writhes for a few seconds and then collapses on the ground. ‘Let’s go. We are leaving.’ She declares and yields control back to me.

I stand stunned for a second, not knowing what to do. Felix begins to stir, and I run out of the room. I rush down the hall as the scent of creosote makes me mildly dizzy. Kaya is excited as I run towards the kitchen. I wasn’t sure what would happen, but I had to leave. I had my head down, so I didn’t notice someone was coming towards me. I ran into something hard as Kaya yips happily.

Strong arms wrap around me, and I feel sparks spread through my body as I slowly look up into the most handsome face I have ever seen. Blue eyes sparkle as a brilliant smile spreads onto his handsome face. He has medium-length brown hair that shapes his face. Of course, he is tall, and I can sense he is probably an alpha. He is wearing a leather jacket over a white shirt. A large hand reaches up to brush the hair from my face as he gazes into my eyes. “Hello, Mate.”

I feel safe in his arms and melt into him. “Mate,” I say back to him with Kaya’s help. My mate leans down, and I close my eyes in anticipation of my first real kiss.

“Nathaniel! Get your damn hands off, my mate,” Felix screams from down the hall.
