I had a few of my clothes in Josh's room, so all I did was take a hot shower, washing away last night's party stress, and changed into fresh clothes. As I was done, I grabbed my backpack off the floor and left Josh's room to the living room. He had already left for school an hour before me. Going to school today was the last thing on my mind but I needed to do something than sit here doing nothing.
"Good morning, Lucas. I didn't know you were here."
I turned my body in the direction of the voice and smiled at the sight of Josh's mother. She was in a suit, looking ready to leave for work. Everything about the woman screamed class. When I started being friends with Josh, the woman intimidated me. She made me feel as if she could chew my head off my shoulders but now, she acted like a second mother to me.
"Good morning, Mrs. Edgewood," I said, and she waved her hand dismissively.
"I've told you to stop calling me that. Just call me by my name, Lucas...Oh, there's food in the oven if you're hungry," she said and grabbed her bag off a table by the wall. "Eat something before leaving the house."
"Of course," I replied, and she smiled before walking out of the house.
I went to the kitchen, then made my way to the oven. I opened it and saw a plate of bacon, eggs, and toasted bread with jam. My stomach rumbled at the sight, and I grabbed the plate. It was still warm. I sat down on one of the stools and began to eat after grabbing a fork from the table I was sitting at. I felt as if I was eating a proper home cooked meal, with no mental problems and crisis looming over me.
My phone vibrated and I took it out to see who it was. It was a text from work. I had an appointment tonight which was good, I was not ready to go home anyway, and I needed more money. I shoved the rest of the food into my mouth and stood up then dropped the plate into the sink.
I left the house afterward and drove to school, not caring if I was an hour and a half late as there was nothing to go to school early for. As soon as I parked at a free spot, I stayed in the car for another hour, thinking and browsing through the web until I felt the need to leave the car.
I got out of the car and headed straight for the entrance. As I got to it, the bell rang, signaling the end of some classes. I walked into the busy hallway and made my way up the stairs, leading to the second floor where my locker was.
Once I got to it, I unlocked it and checked my timetable. I had math and I sighed from the image painted in my head about the boring ass class. The school was difficult to go through, not that I didn't know anything, it was just that it was tiring to waste days coming to class and learning things that may not help anyone after graduating. I grabbed my book for the class and put it into my backpack. I shut the locker and walked toward the end of the hallway. I needed to smoke before going to class.
I walked into the restroom and lit a cig, smoking my feelings away. When the bell rang, signaling that my class had begun, I stayed put. After two more cigarettes, I sprayed my cologne on my body and used my mouth wash before leaving the restroom.
The hallway was empty as I walked through it to my class. Once I got to the door, I pushed the door open, making it bang against the wall. I saw everyone startle, including the bald teacher who glared at me. That man never grew a strand of hair ever since he started teaching us.
"Why are you late to my class, Mr. Hamilton?" He asked, narrowing his eyes at me.
"At least thank me for not skipping your damn class," I retorted and made my way to my seat. I rolled my eyes when I saw Maddy now had her seat beside mine. I had no seatmate, so it pissed me off when I saw her seat close to mine.
This was what I f*****g hated. I f****d her and now she's acting all too funny with me.
I sat down and ignored her when she flipped her hair that look longer than last night off her shoulder. She smiled at me and leaned forward. This was why I didn't want to sleep with her. When she placed her hand on my leg, I held hers and glared at her.
"Leave me alone, Maddy," I warned and faced the class.
A minute later, I felt her hand slip through mine. I clenched my jaw and because I was in no mood to argue, so I let her hold my hand.
"Seems someone isn't paying attention to my lesson. Miss McClure. Did you hear what I said, Holland McClure?"
I snapped my head in the direction of the teacher, and everyone started to laugh. I wondered who he was talking to and looked at who he was staring at. A red-haired girl was sitting on the other end of my row. She looked flushed for a moment with wide eyes. She was pretty though.
The girl rose from her seat and walked to the front of the class then took the marker from the frowning teacher. When Maddy squeezed my hand, I gave her my attention and scowled at her. She smiled at me and tried to lean closer, but I pushed her away before placing my attention back on the girl.
I got confused when I saw her look straight at me. I didn't know her, and she stared at me as if she knew me. I mentally rolled my eyes because I felt like she was one of those girls who were part of the supposed Fanclub I had. I was still shocked I had one, but it benefited me when I needed a girl to sleep with.
"Aww, looks like Miss-know-it-all ain't too bright after all," Josh's voice filled the quiet class and I raised an eyebrow.
I looked from Josh to the girl, trying to see if I may know her. It clicked in my head when I realized she was the girl who Josh had a problem with. He always complained about her almost every time. Apparently, they both hated each other.
"I need to think, you f*****g twat."
"Language, Miss. McClure!"
"Sorry, sir," she said.
Their argument was funny, and this was the first time I experienced my pal fighting with this girl.
"Maybe if you paid attention to what the teacher was saying and not on your crush, you could've known that the equation on the board is a formula for this topic," Josh said and that got me laughing, as well as the rest of the class.
I covered my mouth to stop myself from laughing more. The girl glared at everyone, and even threw the marker at Josh who hissed, making me laugh more.
"I hate y'all so much!" That was what she said before she left the class.
I looked at Josh who immediately made eye contact with me. He winked with a thumbs up. He was good at getting on someone's nerves. I needed to learn a few things from him to make some desperate girls get away from me.
