Chapter Fourteen
Kristin is sitting on the floor of a stone-walled cell, wearing nothing but a gray vest which is marked with little black arrows. The heavy metal door swings open and Shepard, dressed in a prison guard’s uniform, looms over her. He looks terrifying, bigger than he used to be. A bunch of keys jangle from his belt as he leads her into a large room where a row of people wait behind a wooden table. Shepard orders her to remove her vest and display herself to them.
Unable to conceal her nudity, Kristin realizes with horror that she recognizes these people. Her mother and father are seated in the middle, flanked by Brian and Charles.
