It was one of Gong Wentian's killing moves, the Magic Net created by his divine sense. Declan's divine sense would be trapped inside the net if the web caught him, and there would be no way for him to run away from the net.
His Intrinsic Flying Sword and magic skills were all useless when his divine sense was being trapped.
The ending would be terrible, with Gong Wentian slowly absorbing Declan's divine sense before snatching his body.
Declan would die by then, whereas Gong Wentian would carry on with his life in Declan's body.
It was terrifying enough to think of it, and Declan would never want to end up like that.
