*Selene*
We have been walking and stopping for a while. I had lost track of time. I didn’t know it a night, or was it a day? Taking a seat on a rock, I breathed tiredly.
“How long?” I asked, massaging my legs.
“I think we should rest here. We are far deep into the cave,” Deimos said, crossing his legs.
“How long I asked,” I repeated.
“I don’t know. He never told me how long it would take. So we will have to continue until we find the exit,” Deimos said, laying down, “I’m tired, so we should rest here and then continue. So now rest, Selene.”
Giving up, I laid next to him. Janus sat by my side. I quickly dozed off until I fell asleep.
Feeling someone push me, I open my eyes tiredly.
“We have to continue,” Deimos mumbled. I rubbed my eyes and got up. Janus was nowhere around.
“Where is Janus?” I asked frantically.
“He’s ahead, calms down,” Deimos said, grabbing my hand.
Finding Janus some feet away, we continue walking in silence. I could hear water dripping somewhere around.
“I’m thirsty,” I mutter under my breath. I could feel Janus glancing my way.
“Let’s see where the water is coming from,” Janus said, glancing towards Deimos. He nodded, and we tried to find a source of water.
After searching, we finally found a small puddle. Tiredly, I kneel and drink some water.
“You guys stay here. I will look what’s ahead,” Deimos said as he stood up. Then, without a word, he walks off.
“Selene,” Janus called. I glanced sideways and found him smiling, “Everything will be alright.”
“I hope so,” I whispered.
Hearing a scream, we stood up and rushed towards the source. We listened to a growl and another yell. Pulling my dagger out, I ran up. Eyes wide, I look at the wolf. He was biting Deimos on his shoulder.
“Deimos!” I said but got tackled down by another wolf. I groaned and stabbed the beast. He yelps as I brought my knee up and hit him on his stomach. “Help Deimos, Janus!” I ordered.
Nodding, he quickly goes towards Deimos. I used the dagger to s***h the wolf on the neck. Didn’t Deimos say they couldn’t come in?
Standing, I kick the beast and run up to help. But three other wolves surrounded me.
“Move off, fuckers,” I hissed angrily. They growled at me, but neither attacked me. Hearing a whining, I look and find Janus breaking the leg of one wolf. Then, using his strength, he breaks his neck.
“Come with us, or we kill them,” a man said as he appeared. I hissed at him. More wolves appeared surrounding Deimos and Janus. I nervously looked between them and the wolves.
“You have the wrong person!” I retorted.
“Do we? As far as we know, you princess of the seekers is the one responsible for our death,” the man said. His eyes glowed in the darkness. I scoffed and smiled.
“You think I am responsible?” I asked, smirking, “Fine then,” I said, pulling another dagger, “How about we test it out and find out if I’m the one?”
“You sure want to do that?” the man asked. I smiled brightly, and without taking my eyes off him, I attacked the wolf on my left.
Jumping over a rock, I bring my arm down. I was pretending to stab him. But as I approached him. I brought my leg down and instead kicked him, knocking him unconscious. Then, walking up to him, I grab his head and break his neck.
“Now, what did you say?” I said, walking seductively. The man growled as he ordered the others to attack me. Deimos yelled my name, but I ignored him.
One by one, I attack them. I was killing them with no mercy.
“You’re quite tough, huh?” the man said, smiling. I was confused at his gesture. I see him wave his hand. The other wolves that surrounded my brothers attacked. Eyes wide, I moved to help but felt something on my neck. I groaned as I reached for it. A thin stick like a needle pierced my skin. What was that?
Pulling it out, I throw it away and move to help Deimos and Janus. Yanking one of the wolves’ tails, I throw him towards the man. Bumping into him and throwing him against a wall, Janus and Deimos attacked and killed the rest of the wolves.
Panting, I feel Deimos pulled my hand. I was running down the path. We hurriedly reach the exit.
It was dark. Looking around, Janus points towards the east. Running, we looked behind us, but no one followed.
We ran the rest of the night. As the sunrises, I started feeling dizzy. My eyes occasionally would blur. I didn’t utter a word of how I was feeling.
“We have to find a carriage or horses,” Janus exclaimed. His voice sounded strained.
Stopping, I tried to catch my breath, but my vision became dark. I wanted to hold myself from something, but Deimos reached for me.
“Selene, what’s wrong?” Deimos asked worriedly.
Feeling my legs give out. I hold Deimos’ arms.
“Crap!” Janus growled. I looked up at him. What was wrong?
“Let’s go, Janus,” Deimos said, picking me up in his arms.
I tried to say something, but my mouth was becoming numb. Carrying me in his arms, Deimos moves inhumanly fast. From afar, we could hear growls. How do they find us?
“f**k!” I heard Janus say as Deimos abruptly stopped. Opening my eyes, I look to the front. We were near a cliff. I could hear water falling. Was that a river?
“Put me down,” I muttered.
“No!” Deimos said, hugging me tightly.
I could feel both of them worried. Smiling weakly, I push my body off Deimos. He tried to argue, but I just shook my head. I realized I had no choice. The one they were looking for was me. Hearing the wolves’ footsteps get closer, I grab Janus’s arm and pull him behind me.
“What are you doing?” Janus retorted.
I smiled weakly.
“You’re quite fast,” the same man from before said. He was standing naked. I move my eyes up and down his bare face, scowling his way.
“Awful,” I spat. Then, growling, the other wolves approached us. I stood firm and glanced over my shoulders. Janus was still behind me, and Deimos was next to me.
Smiling sadly, I felt my vision blur again. The only way to save them was through that river. Turning around, I grabbed Deimos’s hand. With trembling fingers, I lift it and kiss his hand.
Deimos snapped his head and looked at me, confused.
“You know I love you, right?” I mumble. Deimos’ eyes went wide as he looked at me.
“Nothing will happen, Selene!” Deimos said, reaching for my face. I hugged him and felt tears sting my eyes.
“I’m sorry,” I muttered.
“What?” Deimos asked, confused. Feeling weak, I found my chance to act helpless and push him. Janus looked at us with eyes wide as Deimos fell down the cliff. Quickly, I reached for Janus and whispered a sorry as I pushed him as well. Janus tried to grab my arm, stopping his fall.
“LET GO, JANUS!” I cried, pushing his fingers off my arm.
“NO, SELENE!” Janus said as he tried to pull me with him. Then, grunting, I used my other hand to dig my nails.
“YOU HAVE TO LET GO!” I pleaded. Janus had tears as I clawed on his hand. Then, slipping, I started pushing him hard until he was barely hanging.
“Selene?” Janus utter.
“I’m sorry,” I said, crying, pulling my arm hard. Janus screams as he disappears into the mist.
Standing up with a blurred vision, I see the man laughing.
“Good, you can be quite obedient,” the man said, approaching me. I held my head high as I looked at him, “Too bad that won’t last long.” he mumbled as he yanks my hair. I screamed in pain. “And you’re quite the beauty as well.”
I spit on his face as he slapped me hard. Losing balance, I fall to my knees. My body was feeling numb.
“Next time you open your eyes. You will regret not jumping that cliff,” the man said as he punched me, leaving me unconscious.
