Chapter 5 The Bells aren't Short of Money!

736 Words
"Mr. Bell... What is the meaning of this?" Several people who were arranged in a single file line waiting for Ronald outside were puzzled when they saw him exiting the set with a woman cradled in his arms. But this didn't stop Ronald in his tracks. The man's aloof expression remained and he plainly announced, "Let's stop reviewing the project for today and continue tomorrow." He made this his reply to their question. Kian had already parked the Bentley next to the exit. Ronald got into the car right after seating Emily. Even with the heater turned on, she could still feel a chilly aura emanating from her man. "I'm sorry... for inconveniencing you just now..." She genuinely felt queasy, especially in her tummy where there was a slight throbbing sensation, which was why she accidentally fell onto him just now. "If you don't feel well, then don't go to work. It's not like we're short on money or anything." He said as he leaned back on his side of the car. He gave a little sigh as he closed his seemingly tired eyes. Emily stiffened. The Bells were indeed not short on money, so she needn't really go looking for work as a small-time actor. However, she herself was short on money. She wanted to be a Mrs. Bell who could support herself financially, and not be labelled as a dumb parasite who only leeches off her husband's wealth. "Ronald Bell..." She called out his name loud and clear. The man's tightly shut eyes opened in a flash. The chilly atmosphere instantly dissipated and they could feel the distance between them shrinking. He turned his head to look at her. "Yes?" "Well..." Emily hesitated for a second but decided to press on. She asked in a hushed voice, "Do you... want kids?" Her man was taken aback. He focused on her delicate face. He now had a gloomy expression. Emily was startled. "It's just a hypothetical question. I'm not implying anything..." After staring her down for a second, Ronald came to his senses and pinched a spot on his neck to relieve some tension in the muscle. His words were no longer as frosty as they were before. "Not for the time being," he answered. Emily's heart, which was lodged in her throat a second ago, sank deep into the depths of her soul. A feeling of disappointment and dread spread throughout her entire body. Should she be sad? she asked in her heart. Indeed, she was devastated, but she knew how this marriage came about in the first place better than anyone else. So even if she was sad, she knew she had no right to display it outright. She was the one who insisted on getting married to him. She was also the one who poured all her love into this man. She should've foreseen that it was predestined by fate that she would be the one to suffer in this marriage. After driving for who knows how long, a sharp pain in Emily's tummy made her head throb in pain, and her brows furrowed. Her hands, which had been squished under her leg the entire time, suddenly felt something warm and moist. She removed her hand and saw some blood. What was wrong with her? Emily panicked. Looking out of the window, she saw that they were about to pass by her family home. She quickly hollered, "Stop the car!" "What's wrong?" Ronald looked at her and slowly lowered his piercing gaze. His sudden concern made the atmosphere so suffocating up to a point where Emily felt like she couldn't breathe. "I..." Emily gritted her teeth through the throbbing pain and tried to force a smile. "Isn't that my family home a few blocks down? Is it alright if you stop the car over there? It's been a long time since I last visited my parents. I kind of missing them." Ronald frowned, but he conceded and ordered Kian to stop at the next corner. "Yes, sir." Kian replied. A minute later, before the car could come to a complete halt, Emily fumbled to open the car door. With one hand on the car door, she looked away from him and sheepishly said, "You don't have to come along. I'll be staying here for the night and I'll be back by tomorrow." Ronald froze as he was about to exit the car.
