"What's wrong with you?" Jack inquired. Never in his life did he think he would have to comfort a woman one day.
"Stay away from me. You lied to me last night just to mate with me. How am I sure that you're really my mate?" Charlotte accused Jack, her blue eyes reddened with tears.
Jack's eyes darkened with desire, although he frowned. How could he explain to the crying woman that he wanted to sink his fangs into her neck and leave his marks on her?
"Is that why you're crying? If anyone hears your voice now, they would think I'm a wife-beater like my brother. Shush, the guards are still searching for you," Jack said, and Charlotte calmed down.
It was already morning, and the sun was high in the sky. Charlotte knew that Teddy would soon tear down the whole pack in search of her. If there was one thing she was sure about Teddy, it was the fact that he cared for her in public and wouldn't want the other pack members to see that she was sad.
"Why shouldn't I cry? Aside from the fact that I perceive you as my mate, I'm not supposed to be with you because you're my husband's brother. The pack members wouldn't acknowledge our affair," Charlotte said, and Jack smiled.
"You shouldn't worry about the pack members' opinions, but about what you want."
"But I'm their Luna, and their opinion matters," she argued.
"Mmm," Jack lay on the bed, his muscular arms crossed and placed underneath his head as he rested, gazing at Charlotte.
"I wanted you to complete the divorce first so that you would also have proof that Teddy hadn't touched you. However, if I marked you, Teddy would claim it's his marking, and that leaves us room to be persecuted."
Charlotte smiled at Jack's wonderful analysis. She hadn't thought about it, knowing that most werewolves who were truly in love and were true mates tended to mark each other.
How could she simply forget about her four years of wrapping her neck and covering Teddy's shame?
"You're right," Charlotte smiled, looking back at the handsome man lying on the bed beside her. She felt the urge to run her hands over his chest, and Jack grasped her right hand that was an inch away from grazing his hairy dark chest.
"You can touch me if you want," Jack said, placing Charlotte's right palm on his chest. Her cheeks burned, her arousal drawing Jack to claim her. However, his phone rang, and he remembered that he hadn't switched it off the previous night.
The guards searching for Charlotte, knowing that Teddy wouldn't hesitate to prosecute them, finally found the cottage house.
How lucky of them? They approached the front door and banged on it to see if anyone was inside.
"Strange," Lawrence muttered, wondering who could be living in the small house, as he hadn't thought anyone would be living in this part of the forest. It was more like a secluded land away from their pack house.
"Who's there at the door?" Charlotte inquired while Jack got out of bed. He went to pick up his phone. It was low on battery due to a power shortage in his small house. The house had no power supply.
How could there be a power supply in the forest? Jack walked to his phone, which he had left in the living room the previous night. He picked it up and saw his father calling him.
"Hello, Dad," Jack responded, ignoring the intense knocking on the door and the guard shouting, "Is anyone in there?"
The Norfield guards worked with guns and whips.
"Where are you, Jack?" Alpha Lucas Hudson questioned. Jack pinched the space between his brows, running a hand across his head as his father ordered him, "Come home quickly."
"Okay, Dad," Jack replied, and he walked up to the door to find out who was there. Although he could sense the presence of the three guards standing outside.
Nervously getting out of bed, Charlotte quickly snatched a white towel she saw on the bed and hastily wrapped it around her waist. She bolted to the washroom to take her bath. Knowing that she had been with Jack, Charlotte smelled of Jack's smoky scent, and she wondered if the guards were the ones there.
"What do you want?" Jack inquired as he finally opened the entrance door.
The sweet lemonade scent of Charlotte wafted through the air, and Lawrence, who was sent to search for Charlotte, had his eyes darken as he saw Jack was the one living in the house.
He wasn't mistaken. How was Charlotte's scent now hovering around Jack? Lawrence pondered. Although he knew it had been a long time since he had last seen Jack, how could Jack be filled with a woman's scent? It could only mean one thing, but Lawrence greeted Jack.
"Good morning, Alpha Jack. What brings you to this part of the forest? This path hasn't been used yet, and I'm surprised to see you own a house here, yet you just returned home."
Jack gazed at Lawrence. Smiling, he said, "I know, I had it before I left, so I came back home to use it until I'm ready to build something bigger and more profitable on this land."
"That's fine, Alpha. Actually, Alpha Teddy sent me in search of Luna Charlotte. She left the mansion without Alpha Teddy's permission, and it's only right that we look for her. With the ongoing rogue attacks, the pack members must be careful when going about, let alone our Luna," Lawrence said, while the other two guards stood back.
"You're right. I'm not aware that Luna Charlotte has some rule before she can leave her own house. Well, she's not in my custody, and I was in the middle of cleaning the house before your arrival. As you are aware, I just got back home and need to get the house clean," Jack smirked.
"Okay, Alpha Jack. Thank you for your assistance. I will be taking my leave now, and if you happen to see Luna Charlotte, please do send her home," Lawrence said.
"That's fine. You can leave." Jack stood watching Lawrence leave.
