Chapter 1 – Shattered Dreams
Sasha
"Please Gamma Michael, I can do it," I pleaded to our Hunting teacher, my voice filled with determination. "I've been studying the techniques. Just give me a chance to prove myself."
Gamma Michael sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. I could see the weariness in his eyes - we'd had this conversation nearly every day for months. "Sasha, we've been over this. Wolf hunt training requires an actual wolf. Without one, it's simply too dangerous."
His words were like daggers stabbing my already wounded heart. but I won't let them notice.
My class mate were wishpered, no probably mocking me, I could hear them snickers and whispers behind me.
"Look at her, still trying..."
"When will she get it through her thick skull?"
"Pathetic, just because she thinks she's the Alpha's niece she's be accepted when she's Wolfless.."
"C'mon girl give up. You don't even have a wolf."
I squared my shoulders, keeping my chin high.
I'm already used to their words, I smiled knowing tomorrow everything would change.
On my 18th birthday I'll get my wolf and my mate. And it's just hours away from now.
"I understand, Gamma Michael," I said, forcing a smile. "I'll just observe today."
I made my way to a seat at the edge of the training grounds, I caught sight of Caden and Tina, my worst bullies as they exchange amused glances.
I ignored the urge to glare at them, instead focusing on the lesson at hand. I watched intently as my peers shifted into their wolf forms, noting their postures and movements.
In my mind, I could almost feel the phantom presence of my own wolf, just waiting to emerge. I imagined how it would feel to run with the pack, to hunt as one. The longing was almost painful, but I clung to hope.
'Just one more day,' I told myself. 'One more day, and everything changes.'
As the others raced through the obstacle course, I visualized myself among them. I may not have had a wolf yet, but I had determination in spades. When my time came, I'd be ready.
The lesson seemed to drag on forever, but finally, Gamma Michael called an end to training. As the others shifted back and gathered their things, chattering excitedly, I lingered behind.
Tomorrow, I promised myself. Tomorrow, I'd take my rightful place among them. And soon after that, I'd be Luna. No more sidelines, no more whispers. I'd make my father proud, wherever he was.
With renewed resolve, I headed off to prepare for the ceremony that would change everything.
Little did I know just how different things would turn out...
....
Later during the day, I stood there in my beautiful gown, surrounded by the joyous pack members, ready to get called. This was my moment - Alpha Blake , my uncle, was about to announce me as the future Luna. Finally, I would take my rightful place as heir before tomorrow my mate on my eighteenth birthday, and no one can disrespect or call me wolfless again, proving that even though I'm Wolfless, I'm still the heir to the throne.
Alpha Blake stepped up to the decorated stage, a proud smile on his face. "My dear pack, I have an announcement. As you know, we need a strong Luna to lead us..."
Yes! This was it! I could barely contain my excitement.
"...And I'm honored to introduce my daughter, Sky, the future Luna!"
My heart plummeted to the ground as the pack's cheers turned to confused mutters. Daughter? Sky? Who was this stranger being named heir?
"But...how?" I whispered aside, my voice not audible in the crowd.
But then, she walked out from the shadows, with her long raven hair and stunning emerald eyes.
Sky walked up to the stage with a grace, her very presence was commanding respect. In that moment, my lifelong dream crumbled around me.
"Sky is my daughter, lost to us when she was six!" Blake 's eyes shone with tears of joy as he introduced her.
"But now, she has returned. More stronger than ever, and ready to be the rightful Luna of the Raven pack." He finished.
"No!" The hurtful screech came from my throat before I could stop it. "You can't say this Uncle, I'm the rightful Luna of the pack! My father is the real Alpha, making me more suitable to be Luna. I've trained and prepared for this my whole life!" I uttered but heard a muffled voice as the pack mocked.
Who'll want a wolfless Luna?
His expression hardened. "Logan is dead, Sasha. And I'm the Alpha now. And Sky is my flesh and blood making her more suitable to the throne, more deserving not some Wolfless wolf!"
I recoiled as if he'd struck me. All these years thinking I was pack royalty, only to have it snatched away by this...this outsider. Logan, my beloved father, had died making his brother take over, but I'm still the Alpha's heir.
"I will be eighteen tomorrow, I'll finally get my wolf and a mate!" I argued.
"Quiet Sasha, I've already made my decision and it's final!" He barked as he continued introducing his daughter to the new Luna, not me!
I couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy as the pack cheered for their newfound Luna. After everything I'd endured, the constant ridicule and torment for being a Wolfless, would I forever be an outcast in my own pack?
As the celebration raged on around me, I felt more alone than ever before. I clenched my fists, calming myself, as a spark of hope ignited within me. I would not let them see me break. I would find a way to prove my worth, no matter what it took.
Tomorrow I'll get my wolf and my mate. And be the rightful Luna of the pack.
But a lone flicker of hope remained - maybe by tomorrow, my eighteenth birthday, the day I would meet my fated mate. Perhaps I would have a wolf and be accepted?
"Hey, Sasha!" Caleb's mocking voice cut through the revelry like a knife. "Looks like you'll never be Luna now. Just a pathetic, Wolfless freak!"
Tina , Caleb's cruel girlfriend, cackled beside him. "Maybe if you beg hard enough, Alpha Blake will let you be Sky's pet."
I clenched my fists, trying to swallow the lump of humiliation that threatened to choke me. Deep breaths, Sasha. Don't let them see you break.
I need something, something to take my mind off this!
"Yeah, the little weakling would do great as a pet!" He mocked looking at Sky who was sitting at the stage.
I straightened my back, I refused to let their words penetrate to me, to break the wall I was building around myself. "I won't beg for anything, I'm the real heir, and would find my mate be the Luna," I said, my voice steady despite the turmoil inside.
That's when our eyes met, and she smirked, looking at me with utter disgust, as I reflected her own emotions.
"Oh really," Caleb's taunting laughter rang in my ears as I fought back angry tears. I opened my mouth to hurl a biting retort, but Tina was quicker.
"Aw, is the little Wolfless b***h gonna cry?" She smirked, holding out a glass filled with an amber liquid. "Here, have a drink. It might make you feel a bit less...pathetic."
Wine! I stared at the glass.
"Awwn or the Wolfless is too weak for the wine." She mocked.
I gritted my teeth, trying to swallow the lump of humiliation burning in my throat.
This is just what I wanted to feel numb.
I took the glass, my grip steady, and downed the contents in one burning gulp, desperate for anything to numb the pain of Blake 's betrayal. If they thought they could break me, they were wrong. I would find a way to rise above this.
I thought he loved me like his child? I think he accepted me being Wolfless.
Tina arched one perfectly sculpted eyebrow. "My....my, thirsty aren't we? I'll get you another."
The alcohol hit me faster than expected, the world tilting dangerously. Caleb and Tina 's cruel laughter echoed like I was underwater. Still, I gulped down drink after drink, seeking solace at the bottom of the glass.
"Hey, can you hear me?" Caleb waved a hand but all I could see was double...
As their mocking voices blurred, that's when rough hands gripped my arms, hauling me up.
I tried to fight them off, but my limbs feel weak, weighted down by the alcohol in my system.
I feel the chill night air slapped my face as they half-carried, half-dragged me away from the party.
Moments later I caught a glimpse of the warehouse district through bleary eyes before the darkness consumed me.
"Where are you taking me?" I mumbled.
When I came back to my senses, I was tied up and gagged, as they threw me against a damp wall.
"Where am I?" I panicked.
Alone, tied up and trapped in what looked like an abandoned warehouse in the middle of the woods.
I tried to call for help, but the gag muffled my cries into small whimpers.
I struggled to get free and finally I managed to loosen the ropes around my wrists enough to slip one hand free.
I couldn't move or call for help. My body was weak. The room began to spin.
What's happening to me?
