Chapter Ten – The Omega Princess.
As Phoenix arrived at the Royal Crescent Moon pack house, she was instantly engulfed by her family and friends.
“We hoped you would come,” her cousin Hannah shouted with glee, playfully pushing her sister Rebecca out of the way to claim her hug.
“Oi, you are so aggressive for a human,” Rebecca shouted out laughing, rubbing her arm as if Hannah had hurt it.
“Phoenix, I have not missed you, not one little bit,” Her brother Asher shouted.
“Bollox, he has been moping around for days, saying he was still your favourite brother.” Rebecca laughed at their brother.
“It’s true though.” Asher shrugged, then grabbed Phoenix, giving her a bear hug.
“Breathe… I need to breathe,” Phoenix rasped out, as he nearly took the air from her lungs.
“Breathing is overrated.” Asher shrugged, then held her a little tighter.
Hamish came over, a smile on his face, then side hugged her.
“Missed you sis,” He whispered.
“Missed you too, favourite youngest brother,” Phoenix laughed out.
“Oi, I am your favourite,” Asher protested.
“You are my favourite middle brother.” Phoenix chuckled at him.
“You know, you are like needy kids,” she continued, but her heart was filled with joy.
“So … when do we meet your twin?” Stella, Hannah’s aunt, who was younger than she was asked.
“Not sure, it is all still very new. I do not want to frighten him off, meeting you lot.” Phoenix laughed at them.
“Charming, I am sure.” Hamish grinned at her.
“Okay, okay. Give your sister some space. She is right, you are all like bloody kids again,” Chloe shouted to her brood with a smile, her heart feeling full again to have her eldest daughter back home.
“How long are you staying?” Rebecca excitedly asked.
“Just a few hours, I have Uni in the morning.” Phoenix sighed; she would have loved to stay longer.
Turning around she saw Liane sat in the corner, withdrawn from everyone. Phoenix heart sank, as she looked over at the wolf, she looked so unhappy.
“Hey, how are you doing?” Phoenix asked moving towards her.
“Oh, I am fine. I am being selfish. Ted feels like it is his time now, and I want him to use Ethan or Queen Chloe to heal him and get a few more years with him.” Liane sighed.
Phoenix placed her hand on Liane’s shoulder to offer some comfort. The vicar and Liane had made and odd friendship-couple. They had used her teleportation gift to travel the world for around twenty years now. Originally Liane had wanted to find information on her birth mother, her father being a repentant witch, but she gave up not long after the Freedom War had ended, preferring to see the world with Vicar Ted. He was, as she said, the only family she would ever need.
“How is he doing?” Phoenix asked.
“He cannot walk more than ten steps without betting breathless, he is very tired all the time. Andrew said it probably won’t be much longer.” Liane sighed.
“Well, I will go see him now, do you want to come?” Phoenix asked.
“Yes, Alpha Josh and Luna Nicki are with him at the moment.” Liane smiled, then reached out and took hold of Phoenix’s hand, and instantly she found herself in the hospital ward, with Ted sat up in bed as her Uncle Josh and Aunty Nicki both sat talking to him and laughing at some old tale of him doing the cancan after drinking Uncle Robins homebrew at his first werewolf party.
“Phoenix, you are back.” Nicki smiled at her, then got up out of her chair and gave her a big hug.
“Just for a few hours.” Phoenix smiled.
“We have missed you.” Josh smiled, giving her another bear hug, it seemed her family forgot that she needed oxygen to live.
“Take a seat, Mam will be here shortly.” Nicki informed her. Cheryl, Nicki and Stacey’s mother, was another human who had found out Dr. Andrew Keto was her mate, not long after her arrival with Nicki to the pack.
“Hey Ted, how are you feeling?” Phoenix asked the elderly vicar.
“Soft and soggy.” Ted laughed.
“He is not happy with Andrew, as he has ban Alpha Robin from bringing him a glass or three of his whiskey every night.” Liane smiled with love at the Vicar.
“He is a spoil sport, I mean, it hardly matters if the stuff can kill me now.” Ted joked.
Liane stiffened slightly beside Phoenix but kept the warm smile on her face. Phoenix realised just how much effort that must have been for her to do.
“Okay Ted, we will get off now, see you tomorrow,” Josh said to him.
“Yes, if I am still here.” Ted once more smiled.
“Do you want me to take you?” Liane asked.
“No, you stay, we are only heading up to the pack house, we want to spend time with this one before she heads back to sunny Spain.” Josh grinned at Phoenix.
Liane took a seat beside Ted, and reached out holding his hand, as Phoenix sat at the opposite side of the bed.
“Now, look at this. Two beautiful girls holding my hand, life doesn’t get much better than this.” Ted winked his wrinkled eye at them both.
“Always a flirt.” Phoenix laughed at him.
“Hey, I didn’t take a vow of celibacy; wrong religion.” Ted joked.
“Phoenix you are home!” The voice of Cheryl, who was more like her grandmother than anything else, despite looking not a day over 30, and being human grinned at her.
“Just for a few hours, to see this one.” Phoenix smiled.
“How is Spain?” Cheryl asked, as she pulled up a chair alongside Teds bed.
“Great, hot, but yes, I am enjoying it. I miss everyone though.” Phoenix smiled.
“Oh, I loved Spain when we went there.” Ted smiled.
“We could go back if you let Ethan hold your hand for a bit.” Liane almost pouted.
“Nice try, but my time is my time my girl.” Ted softly told the girl who was like a daughter to him.
“So, your Mam tells me you have a twin brother; that is really amazing.” Cheryl grinned at Phoenix.
“Yes, Jonathon, he is lovely. Not at all like his parents or grandparents were.” Phoenix grinned happily.
“Oh, a twin brother, that is great news. The Lord moves in mysterious ways.” Ted smiled happily.
Liane looked down slightly, hiding her sadness, knowing Ted had forgotten she had told him about Phoenix having a twin at least four times.
They sat and chatted together, laughing and joking together, for over half-an-hour, when Ted started to get sleepy, and drifted off.
“He will be asleep all night now. Kitty will come in shortly and watch over him, it is her turn for the night shift.” Cheryl sighed out.
“Come on, I will take you back to the pack house.” Liane sighed.
“Actually, I want to walk if that is okay, I have missed my home.” Phoenix smiled.
“Of course.” Liane grinned then disappeared before her eyes.
Phoenix lent over and softly kissed Ted on his wizened forehead.
“Goodbye Ted.” She whispered, not sure if she would ever see him again.
Phoenix walked up to her old pack house, it was of course familiar, yet felt strange in some way. Not that she didn’t belong, but almost like she was viewing the tree lined walk with fresh eyes. She had missed the bite of the cold Scottish evenings. The evenings in Spain were as hot as the daytime here, but the locals all thought it was cold.
As she walked into the pack house, she was greeted by Caroline, the omega wolf, who was mated to her rescuer from her old pack, Drake.
“Hey, we are serving food. I made your favourite Haggis and tatties. Your tin of Iron Bru is waiting for you as well.” Caroline laughed.
“Thank you, Caroline.” Phoenix smiled warmly at the omega.
Walking into the dining area, she saw the large table filled with pack members, her seat at the top on the right-hand side of her mother, was waiting for her, a plate of Haggis and the tin of Iron Bru in place just as Caroline had told her it would be. A small smile adorned her lips, it was good to be home, and have real Scottish food.
Taking her seat, she dug into the food, as everyone sat around the table chatting about their day, asking her questions about Jonathon. It was good to be home, but something inside her felt a pull to return to Spain.
“This is better than Tapas.” Uncle Josh grinned as he shovelled more food onto her Aunty Nicki’s plate.
“Have you had Tapas?” Phoenix laughed.
“Hey, I am a man of the world, and well-travelled.” Josh laughed.
“But you still didn’t eat the tapas.” Nicki laughed at her mate.
“True, I mean I need more than a few olives to sustain all this muscle, little froggy.” He winked at her, as she giggled and blushed.
Phoenix smiled, her uncle had always called his mate ‘little froggy’, given she was obsessed with them, and every birthday, anniversary, and Christmas he would gift her at least one present that was something to do with frogs, and each time, her face would light up as if he had given her the crown jewels when he did.
Asher pulled his chair closer to Phoenix, then lent over to her.
“All joking aside, I do miss you, and I am happy you have found out you have a twin brother, but I also want to meet him. Just to let him know, I am still your favourite brother.” He grinned, lightening the statement, but very obviously concerned for his older sister.
“I will see if we can arrange that. He is beta of his pack, so will need his Alpha’s permission for him and Amalia his mate to come. It is delicate, as I do not want anyone other than Jonathon and Amalia to know I am the Omega Princess.” Phoenix sighed.
“Why, do you think they will mistreat you?” Asher growled out.
“No, I don’t think so, I just do not want to be treated differently. Not everyone understands how we operate, as in, our mother doesn’t give a s**t, and neither her, nor Dad, think themselves higher than anyone else. I want to keep things as normal as possible,” she explained to her protective brother.
“I get that. Even visiting packs down in England is a little wired when they put on the bells and whistles for our arrival.” Asher nodded his understanding.
“You could come over to me though, anytime you want.” Phoenix smiled.
“You bet I will, but not at the moment, Dad has me going with him on this year’s royal tour of the packs. It is election year next year, and he wants to ensure the elders they select are up for the job of sitting on the eldership table. The joys of being the heir.” Asher shrugged.
“I know, but you love it really.” Phoenix nudged her brother with her elbow. He smiled and nodded his head, knowing he did not mind doing the duties his rank requested of him, not really.
Finished with their meal, Phoenix looked at her family, she was happy she came, but still, knowing Ted was receiving end-of-life care made her sad to leave. But she had lectures in the morning, and once more she felt the pull to get back to Spain.
“Sorry guy’s I have to go,” Phoenix sighed out.
“Next time, come on a pack run.” Chloe grinned down at her eldest child.
“Yes, Ava would love that.” Phoenix agreed.
Her Dad grabbed hold of her, holding her tight to his chest.
“Look after yourself; we are only a phone call away. I love you,” he whispered to her.
Liane stepped forward, as Phoenix waved to her family and friends, then took her hand as she transported her back to Spain.
