“HI CARIAD,” RENE SAID. “I haven’t seen you in ages. What have you been up to?” Cariad had gone directly to the soil lab when she arrived aboard the colony ship, but now that she’d arrived, she wasn’t sure how to ask her friend about the lesion that Dr. Montfort had discovered on her. “Hi, Rene.
