Chapter Fourteen: IndecisionsJamie sat absently stirring his spoon through his cornflakes, whilst in the kitchen his mum busied herself with tidying away cups and plates. The kitchen was always immaculate, but she nonetheless seemed to find plenty to do. Jamie envied the way she could occupy herself with the most mundane of things; she never complained, just got on with it, smiling to herself, sometimes humming a little tune. She seemed totally devoid of any concerns whatsoever, although this couldn't be the case. The kitchen was her means of escape, a place where she could forget about Dad, or at least try, for Jamie knew that she must miss him, at least sometimes.
