She played with her food for a little longer, obviously distracted, then raised her head and asked, “Have you ever hurt a woman?” Really!  I knew what she meant very well and was obviously offended, but decided to play dumb, “Well, I would like to believe that I have wounded some of their hearts…” then finished my answer with a tell-tale wink and a cheeky smile, “…and hurt at least some of them to their liking.”  She had the nerves to look annoyed! She then rephrased the question, “Have you ever, intentionally, physically hurt a woman in a way that caused her distress or physical injury?” “No” I replied in as unthreatening a voice as I could muster, then carefully placed the knife and the fork back on the plate, not to make any sound. “A child?” she asked again. “No” I responded
