Chapter Twenty: The Promise

“Anyways, let’s not talk about them. I mean, I am willing to answer any questions that you have, because as far as I am concerned, you have a lot of questions running through your mind right now. So I am willing to answer it all. If your goal from yesterday haven’t changed.” She said. Yeah, she is right, I still have a lot of questions running to my head right now. Especially those things that are connected to the prison? I mean, how did they even know that a fire will burst in the prison? “Okay… You’re right.” She looks at me, like she really is prepared to answer any questions that I have in my mind, like she already planned out the answers she will be giving me. I mean, how could she not when the first time I got here, the first thing that I do is asks her a bunch of questions. “I mean, only have one specific questions in my mind ever since yesterday…. How did you know about the fire in the prison? And the scariest part of all was when you knew I will be going to prison… Which I clearly don’t understand how.” I asks her. She nodded first, but just before she answered my question, someone already answered it for her. “Harry always had that plan to take you out, but not by his own hands, with others.” I look to the direction where the voice came from, and I was stunned to speak and was froze to where I am standing when I saw Hernando standing at the front door, looking straight right at me. Like he was not shock that this happened. I mean, how could he when I remember what the person said to me, the one who busted me out of there, that Hernando started the escape plan. Means, he knows it’ll happen. “Hernando.” I whispered his name and he smiled at me. “Good to see you too.” He said and he walks towards me. When he is like 10 inches away from me, he stopped and he looked into my eyes and smiled. He tapped my shoulders. “Hi boy.” He said to me. For 8 months of me being part of their family, I hadn’t seen him for 7 months. Because a month after the wedding, he disappears, he said he had this business trip away from LA. And now, I see him standing in front of me, I can see no changes. I smiled and just happy to have him back. I know, I supposed to hate the Madden, but the only one who I don’t hate that much, is him. But still, it doesn’t mean I trust him. I never trusted him before, but still, I have no Idea how did he convinced me on marrying his grand daughter, Alicia. I just knew that Ia m not really on a good place before, I remember he talked to me just after making a scene to Harry’s celebration party, celebration of the new beginning of their family, when that new beginning he is talking about, was supposed to be my new beginning. I just know that I agreed to him, because I thought it would put me out of the misery, but no. It did not. But I know what caught me into marrying Alicia. The words ‘I can bring what you’ve lost. All you have to do is marry my Alicia, and all is forgiven. You’ll be rich again, you’ll be out of the prison.’ But now, it looks like he lied because I was sent to prison when he promised me I won’t be there. And I am still poor and still, nothing changed when he promised me rich. I felt like I got scammed. “I know my son. What he will do, or what he will try to do. I know that your life will not be easy as soon as you become his son in law. I know you’ll be sent to prison, even though I promise you that you won’t. I know that your life will be a living hell, when I promise you that you will get everything that you lost because of him, back. But trust me… You will… Now that he thought you’re gone.” He stops. “Why are you helping me Hernando? You are a Madden, and I am a Martinez. Our families are enemies. Our goal is to make sure that your family will be better than the Martinez, same as to my family. That’s what has been thought to me, to us, over the generations.” I asks him. I just don’t know if I am going to believe anything that will come out of his mouth. “It is because we have the same reason. We want this rivalry between our family to finally be ended… And I have my own reason Lander. Besides, I am not my son. Harry is the one who wants to take every single Martinez out, so he won’t have any competition in life and business and company.” he said to me. I have no idea if it was another lie, or I don’t even know if he is lying, because I don’t know what to think anymore, who to trust, what to do, what to trust. Until I am not getting what he promised to me, I will consider the deal as a lie. Maybe he was the mastermind and all, maybe he was the one who told his son to make me suffer, and he needed me to be married to their family, so I will fall back. Who knows what is going on inside his head.
